I guess really you still have to let humans make their own choices. But I simply hate how evolution has played out to where men have to prove themselves to everyone. I think far too many in our male species don't understand how fragile they are in reality. But like I said, you'll wont change evolution even if you can make more people aware.

Ugh. I hear this bullshit all the time. Even one of my university professors tried arguing with me about how 'barbaric' boxing is. At that moment I knew what a douche he was.

It's bullshit.

These are two men who get into the ring of their own volition. Why does the world seemingly view most if not all martial arts as noble, but boxing is barbaric. Yes it's violent. Yes it's physically very demanding. But that's what makes it great, it's about seeing who, out of two men (or women), has both the skill and the will to win. They don't call boxing the 'sweet science' for nothing. People who have this burning hatred for the sport and just see it as barbaric will never understand why it's called that. There's so much more to it than just two guys punching each other's lights out. Street fighting is barbaric. That's no rules, anything goes. No referee. No training standards. No control. Boxing isn't any of that. Boxing is probably more controlled a sport than other life endangering sports, like motor racing or the NFL like you mentioned.

People need to get over the days of old where boxers would routinely go 15 rounds, using very low standard gloves, have referees that wouldn't stop the fight til one of the guys was dead and fighters who'd fight til they're 50 ending up with life destroying injuries. Back then you might of had a point. But the sport has moved on a hell of a lot since then.

I bet you don't think those who want to be great at tennis are just doing it to 'prove themselves'. Or those who want to be great at snooker. Or being the best rock band in the world. Or being the best politician.

Your view is so narrow-minded. Why not just be honest and say you don't like it because it's too violent for your tastes. I could actually respect that. But to come on this thread and bash it for somehow being the worst result of our evolutionary process? Are you fucking crazy? Really?

Go back and read what I said. Barbaric does not mean illegal. I have accepted consent is involved, but that does not make boxing a game of patty cakes. It is a violent sport. So is NHL hockey and the NFL.

I simply think you cant get rid of contact sports outright because men evolved with testosterone. But to say it isn't barbaric is a joke. You spend most of your life sloshing your brain around sure you can, but it will in the end have long term affects on you.

I am sure all pro sports men are quite capable of civility outside of the event. But contact sports are literally a simulation of war. It is a very evolutionary trait, but to say it it safe and good for the individual outside of proving their ego, is a joke.

Now show me where I said you could create a utopia where no one does it. It is still barbaric. It is still male refusal to understand they are not super human.

I smoke, I know it is bad for me. I don't see myself stopping because it is an addiction. Does that make me a hypocrite knowing it is bad for me? Yes, but I still don't lie to myself.

Contact sports, especially ones that involve the head getting hit, is barbaric and not healthy for the person doing it. No you cannot stop it, but you shouldn't lie to yourself or anyone else about how dangerous it is.

Tell me outside of consent, how agreeing to slosh your brains around is any less violent than if someone did that to you without your consent?

That is like saying smoking is more healthy when you agree to smoke. I smoke, but I don't pretend it is healthy.

It is barbaric. The fact people agree to do it isn't a call to stop it. It is simply calling it what it is. I love the NFL myself, but that is barbaric too. I simply refuse to lie about it.

Violence in sports is still violence, consent does not change that. Punching someone or running into them full speed, creates violent contact and often injures the person involved.

Not a call to stop it, just being realistic about what it is.

I'm not even going to have the discussion. If you don't like it get off the thread.

Women do contact sports too you know. Sexist.

Show me in my response where I claimed women don't play contact sports. Some women box too, still doesn't make it healthy long term.

I was specifically talking about boxing, even soccer can have head injuries and women play soccer too.

And none of this says anyone should be forced to stop. But lets stop pretending just because either sex plays a contact sport that it doesn't have long term damage.

Violence is violence, consensual or not.

Well you said that the sports won't go away because men evolve with testosterone. Expect for all the women who play those sports too so it's not really a good definition. Also who cares if violence is violence. I don't know what that is even supposed to mean. Duh? I don't want to live in some sanitized violence free society anyway. Consent is what's important, not the violence.

Seriously dude, take it somewhere else. This is a thread intended for boxing fans, not for assholes to come and tell us how much they dislike boxing.

What's wrong with serving instinct? It's what we are. It's where our motivation comes from, and it's where our neurological pleasure rewards come from. You don't like fighting; you prefer listening to Abba. Fine-- you don't have the same level of testosterone that other members of society do, or the same instincts that they do, and there's nothing wrong with that. However, do you like it when people crash into your 80's music threads calling you unmanly because that music is so hopelessly superficial and lacking in musical depth or passion that it belongs more in elevators than on the radio?

The fact is that this particular match is probably the most anticipated fight in the history of fighting. It involves closely-matched opponents with very different styles, and has a back-story that stretches back for years. Whatever you think about the sport, this particular event is of a level that transcends that sport.

So put your coin in the jukebox, put on your sequined jacket, and boogie on outta here.
