NdGT's 'Astrophysics For People In A Hurry'. Good read for those of us who are 'into' science rather than 'in' science.

Finished a very good legal thriller today at work. "Dead Even" by Brad Meltzer. Started a re-read of the Alex Benedict series by Jack McDevitt, one of my favorite sci-fi authors. I'd recommend most anything from him, not because they're groundbreaking or brilliantly written (though "Ancient Shores" is near brilliance) but because he's so consistently good. His best books are fantastic and his worst are still pretty darned good.

Does it cover conspiracy claims with, "Prove it with YouTube videos"?

Nah, that's the forthcoming volume titled "Conspiracies and Their Absolute Truth" by Skoobs E. Snaq.

Finished China Miéville's "Embassytown" today. No the best book I ever read, but still very good sci-fi. Language as a drug is not a concept I've ever seen before, but China Miéville is an interesting author and he portrayed it well. I think this one will be better on a re-read though. So many details and concepts being thrown out that you can get a bit lost along the way.

I've ordered Shattered.

Hopefully it's readable and I'll feel motivated to do some reportage on it.

Well, I haven't read it lately yet, but it is currently #2 in my reading queue: It's called Savage Grace and I recently ordered an old hardcover copy (it came this afternoon) because of a greataunt who died recently. I remember that, in the days before starting college, My parents and I decided to visit her, and I was reading Savage Grace. She took an interest in what I was reading, and asked if it was good. I said it was and I recommended it. Bear in mind, I had yet to reach the developmental milestone of tailoring my book recommendations to my audience's sensibilities. I told her it was a murder story (I forget the words, since it was almost nine years ago) and she said she might check it out. Then I mentioned some of the details around the murder, like that the killer murdered his mother after she allegedly had sex with him in an attempt to curb his homosexuality (I understand that part in bold may not have happened, but, really, bursting that bubble is like saying the Folsom Prison inmates cheering on Johnny Cash after he sang about shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die were simply added in post-production). My mother called her back as soon as she could to talk her out of checking it out, since, apparently, she was thinking it was some kind of murder mystery. Presumably that worked.

There's a Thurber essay in there somewhere.

Then a week ago, she died of old age, and I decided to order a hardcover version from Alibris.

Been checking out some reviews for Shattered. I think it will be a good read. Also, a bit of a surprise as to the depth of the reportage, book has been sourced from the campaign staffers during the campaign.
