Another one of Granny's talks
May 18, 2015 at 6:23 pm
(This post was last modified: May 18, 2015 at 7:32 pm by dahrling.)
My grandmother just gifted me with another one of those great little talks grandmothers like to have sometimes.
We were arguing over the problem of evil, but what amused me is how she'd try to sneak in a silent prayer and move her hands around, blessing me and removing Satan's influence over me.
I do my love my grandmother
But I couldn't resist, I laughed. And I know she was hurt, but I just couldn't stop myself.
It was like Satan himself took over my body and just wouldn't let go until she left the room.
So, who else has stories of their grandparent's/parent's/anyone else's little talks they'd like to share?

In the '60 my grandmother used to have a cross on her living room wall. Below the arms were 10 x 12 pictures of the pope ( Pius XII - Hitler's pal) and Liberace. In fact, Liberace might have been just a smidge higher than the fucking pope.
No one had the heart to tell her that Liberace was as queer as a $3 bill.
She was a great cook, though.

My grandfather used to teach me dirty songs he learned in the Austro-Hungarian army in WWI. He was a jew, who liked his roast pork with sauerkraut. So not much religious talk there.

My mother once told us that she thought that my depressions might be caused by "bad oxygen". Apparently, if you breathe in and out the same air in an enclosed space, it can lead to the doldrums because of the changes to the oxygen from breathing in and out.

My grandmother was my best friend but I still don't understand her fascination with Liberace.

I think to understand it, you might want to read about him:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberace
And to watch some videos on youtube of him.
And think about the era in which he was popular, what else was available at the time, and also about your grandmothers' tastes generally.
I don't expect that to get you to like Liberace (and if I did, I probably would not be posting any of this), but I think it is understandable why some people did like him.

I don't dislike him but I think my grandmother had a bit of a crush on him. That is what I meant by fascination.

Liberace was big in 'the day'. Sadly, his fans have mostly died off, the museum in Los Vegas closed many years ago and the collection dispersed. I wasn't a huge fan of his, and his final days (and the subsequent lurid court cases) were sad. Liberace understood his audience and gave them what they wanted, showmanship.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
