Underbelly; The Golden Mile
In my opinion. 'Underbelly' has been the best Australian TV drama series ever made. Tonight part three 'The Golden Mile' (King's Cross Sydney) premieres.

It should be available on line from tomorrow (April 12)

Quote:Underbelly is a 13-part Australian television mini-series, retelling the real events of the 1995–2004 gangland war in Melbourne. The series is based on the book Leadbelly: Inside Australia's Underworld, by The Age journalists John Silvester and Andrew Rule.[1] Underbelly began screening on 13 February 2008 on the Nine Network in all states and territories except Victoria, due to a court injunction.[2] An edited version of the series premiered in Victoria on 14 September 2008 after the injunction was partially lifted, although only the first five episodes were shown.[3] The series depicts the key players in Melbourne's criminal underworld, including the Carlton Crew and their rival, Carl Williams. Underbelly is produced by the Australian Film Finance Corporation,[4] in association with Film Victoria.[5] The executive producers are Des Monaghan and Jo Horsburgh.[4]

Quote:2010: Underbelly: The Golden Mile

Season 3 will be titled "The Golden Mile" and will be the sequel to A Tale of Two Cities a prequel to the first season, starting in 1989. The season will take place in Kings Cross, New South Wales, and specifically a street in Sydney referred to as "the Golden Mile". Longueville Road, in the quiet North Shore suburb of Lane Cove in Sydney, has a similar layout and width to that of Darlinghurst Road in Kings Cross, and is therefore the location for some of the scenes. Longueville Road and the Coolangatta shopfronts are being transformed into Kings Cross nightspots such as The Love Machine, with filming to begin there on September 7, 2009.[3] Characters expected to be in this season include John Ibrahim, Kim Hollingsworth, the Bayeh Brothers, Trevor Haken and Chook Fowler. The season is also expected to include the Wood Royal Commission in 1995. A statement released by the Nine Network says "Underbelly: The Golden Mile is the story of the excesses of the empire, the collapse of the empire, the chaos that followed, and the ultimate victory of strong and honest police ... seen through the eyes of some of the most sexy, charming, corrupt and deadly people of the time."[4]. Nine's head of drama, Jo Horsburgh, confirmed that several characters from season two will return for season three. Filming is expected to be concluded by the end of the year.[5][6] The first episode will set to air as a two-hour telemovie on April 11, 2010.[7]
