Deconversion of a prospective priest

RE: Deconversion of a prospective priest
Welcome aboard!

You should be a nice addition to the forums.

You have an excellent way with the written word.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Welcome

I hope you enjoy your stay.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Welcome, Aaran! Smile

That was one of the more enjoyable deconversion stories I've read, even in its simplicity. I used to work with an ex-Sikh from Punjab. He had a completely shaved head Big Grin Although, I think that had more to do with his being caught dealing prescription drugs and losing his dentistry license than any calculated decision.

So how bout ya? Long hair?
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

My hair used to flow down to the level of my belly button, but not anymore Exian, no. Now I just have a shitty buzzcut, like a regular Joe.

Thank you kindly everyone for your warm welcome!

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I don't know how I missed this intro! Welcome, Aaran Smile

I haven't had a ton of exposure to your religion, but I was playing at a penny slot machine in Las Vegas one evening, and a sweet, young-looking guy with a turban and beard tapped me on the shoulder and asked if he could watch me play. We spent a good portion of the night together. He watched me gamble and chuckled at my loose lips whenever one of my drunk friends would come around. We chatted, I know, but I had already been two beers in when we met, so my memory of the convo gets fuzzier as the night goes on. All I know is that he was just very sweet and fun. I asked why he wanted to hang out with someone like me, being that his religion doesn't allow him to be a degenerate, and his answer was, "why wouldn't I want to hang out with you? You're not like women I know," or something. We texted back and forth for a couple of weeks, but then it dropped off. He was from somewhere far, but I can't remember where.
