Ok, first and foremost, I don't want what I'm going to say to be taken as anti-science. I'm not anti-science, never have been. Science rocks, totally and utterly.
That being said, I have a hard time getting excited about pictures of Pluto. Yes, I get that it's an astonishing technical achievement. Yes, I get that knowledge for the sake of knowledge is worthwhile. But, really...Pluto? meh.

I'm a bit bummed that they can't catch Eris on the way out.

I am excited because Pluto is a representative of what is likely by far the most numerous class of large objects in the solar system. It's the tip of an iceberg.

Indeed. We don't close pictures of such bodies, assuming Triton is a bit different.
The apparent collisional history of the Pluto system might shed some light on earth and our moon. Could be significant in helping us understand how rare or common our situation is.

Hi Brian. Hope you are doing well. Pluto is the one Kuiper belt object we can (relatively easily) reach and study in detail. I think there are going to be surprises that makes the trip well worth it. just my two cents worth. By the way, here is the latest image:
Yeah, it is still low resolution, but it is getting better, and will get much better throughout the next week. stay tuned.

Boru, I'm excited about Pluto, but only if I use religious logic.
Namely, can you prove to me that Pluto isn't full of gorgeous nymphomanics just wating to serve my every desires. I rest my case, your honour.
