So I guess I'm an Atheist?

Min, why do you have to be so blunt! They've got one foot in the door and you're scaring them away!
What if I want to partially believe in God? Or  is that believe in a partial God? Or believe only on alternating Tuesdays and Fridays? Shy

United Methodists, eh? That was my parents' flavor, too. It's quite the milquetoast version of Christianity, and I found myself in shock when I was eventually exposed to the brimstone and fire types.

Welcome to the forum. What questions do you have?

Welcome.

You've come to the right place for opinionated atheists and theists.

Hope you enjoy your time here.

I would encourage you to search yourself, and not just take the words of others. Sure, you can listen to others and hear their viewpoints, but don't let anyone else decide for you; whatever decision you make, its not them that have to live with it, its you. Anyway, from one new user to another, welcome to AF!

Any particular reason why?

I guess I'm curious if "atheist spirituality" is a thing. Not all religions have a god. I was thrown for a loop when I read that Sam Harris practiced some form of zen meditation.  Huh I thought "isn't that Buddhism or something"?

I have actually met an atheist, that by any measure was a type of Buddist, just minus Buddha is a god part. Very interesting to speak with, very inconsistent in his logic.

I agree with this.

You can listen to the opinions of others, and some will try to convince you of the sincerity of their claims, from both sides, but, ultimately, it's you who has to make up your own mind.

Some sects of Buddhism are atheists.

Besides, mediation is basically just relaxing the mind and body. No belief in god is needed.

Hello and welcome, Shinagami.

"So I guess I'm an Atheist?"  You've certainly come to the right place to answer that question.  We have loads of experience with your situation.

Here is a checklist you might want to use to find out if atheism is right for you:

1)  Do you hate God?

2)  Do you lie awake at night and question how He could allow all the evil we see in the world today?

3)  Do you have a strong hankering to sin but worry about eternal reprisal?

4)  Do you strongly believe that everything came from nothing?

If you answered yes to even one of these questions then you just might be ..

.. an unhappy believer.
