I just think it's how willing the wealthy are to share and help poorer people out.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to hang onto some expendable income and spend some money on yourself, especially if you've really worked hard all your life for it. However, I have a problem with people who have employees they insist on paying minimum wage, when they themselves earn more money than they can ever possibly spend. Would it kill you to cut your income just a bit to give your employees (who your business would sink without) a wage they can live more sustainably on? Probably not.

Well does that not apply to almost everyone in the first world? We all have tremendous unnecessary wealth compared to most of the world. Why aren't people driving cars and owning x-boxes helping out the hungry in India?

I've noticed that quite a few of the posters here harbor animosity toward the rich, wealthy, 1 percenter's ........... I've got a good feel for the 1%. Do any of you have a number in mind for the rest? What do you consider rich, wealthy? Do you have a sliding scale for the level of animosity, i.e. 500K=OK, 5mil=irritating, 10mil=disgust and so on?

The grade of animosity depends on the individual or the group in question. If they treat others like shit and influence politics to make them even richer by making others even poorer, my respect is very limited. If they line their pockets by trampling over other human beings, my respect is limited.

It doesn't depend on what they have. It depends on who they are and if they're hurting society at large. Respect is earned and just being rich isn't the way to earn it.

Phil Gramm, a former three-term Republican senator from Texas who once ran the Senate Banking Committee, told the House Financial Services Committee yesterday that “it was an outrage” that his friend Edward Whitacre, the CEO of AT&T, only got “$75 million” when he retired in 2007.
“If there’s ever been an exploited worker” it was Whitacre, said Gramm, testifying on the fifth anniversary of passage of the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill. Gramm appeared genuinely aggrieved by Whitacre’s shabby treatment and literally pounded the table while speaking.
Whitacre actually received a retirement package totaling $158 million.
Gramm attributed public anger at CEOs like Whitacre to “the one form of bigotry that is still allowed in America,” which is “bigotry against the successful.”

Wealthy people who give generously to charity, employ a large number of well looked after workers, and don't use their power to step on the little guys are fine by me.

Rich dicks who pay off officials, throw their financial weight around and moan about their rich people problems should be thrown into windowless cells filled with wasps and razor wire and vinegar.
