Thanks guys. He's a little gassy, and that's it so far. He got right up to go out and squirt something terrible out his back end. No blood, so that's a good sign.
I'll be playing poo detective for the next couple of weeks. I could use C_L's poo-thusiasm right about now!

After years of using all those other attempts at building a better mouse trap, and with kids and animals running around the house, I've finally decided this year to go with the traditional snap traps. I've tried the catch-and-release(-and-run-back-in) traps, I've tried the poison but that always scares me, so I just sucked it up and got over killing them so violently. Can't have them chewing electrical wires and whatnot.
What I've found is that it's not that bad. It's pretty quick, and if an animal or a kid gets in it, it's just gonna hurt like a morherfucker, but nothing serious.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:

The other option that I like is sticky traps. Not toxic, low/no danger to larger animals, slide into tight places (under stove or fridge). Drawback, not a quick death for the victim.
Best wishes. Sending healing vibs.

Yeah, no more bait traps for this guy. Apparently the Tan Man likes the taste.

When I was sixteen, my dad used sticky traps and my mom would make me free them. I kept trying to pry their little legs off and I would see their bones bending like they were rubber. They never broke, just bent. I ended up cutting them out with scissors and watched them run off with little cardboard squares on their legs.
So, no thanks. Lol

The catch and release traps require you to take them far, far away, so they don't come back.
Also, if you are having problems with mice, you should go around your house on the outside and carefully look for little holes, and fill them in. Mice do not get in by magically walking through walls. If you do not plug up the holes, you should expect to have more mice in the future, even if you manage to get rid of them all for a time.
I presently have no mice, but I have had them in the past. Blocking up holes is essential for keeping them out. For getting rid of them, I most recently used the catch and release, and I released them miles away from my home. If you don't want to do that, then I agree that the snap traps are probably best, as they typically kill quickly, which makes them usually more humane than poison or other methods. Plus you don't have a dead mouse rotting in your walls that way.

Man, I don't think I could get all the holes and cracks. Plus, they'd just get in through the dryer vent, chimney, or basement oven anyhow.
I wouldn't say I'm having problems with mice. I live in the country with nothing but fields and woods around me, so they're kind of the norm. This is also why the catch-and-release was silly to try in the first place. I could drop them off in BFE and they'd be quickly replaced by another mouse looking for a warm place (hail hydra). No, I just have to continue to battle them each year and do the best I can.

You can put grates or "hardware cloth" over vents. I did that, and filled in the holes in the walls. I have been mouse free for years now. Behind the house in which I live is a wooded area with a stream. I sometimes see deer and other wildlife out my back window. I am sure there are plenty of mice feeding the owls and other such predators. It was a bit of work covering the vents with hardware cloth and finding and filling all the holes, but it was very much worth the trouble.
It can be done.

We used to have plagues of mice here.
Probably will again.
So we'd just leave out a 20 L drum, half full of water overnight, come morning you got a bucket of dead mice.
Anyway, farm dogs were getting sick all over the place from eating cement mix and flour.
End up dying of constipation.

He's doing fine for now. I'll wait for the poo to come before I start freaking out some more.
I hope he comes out all right, and I've no doubt you will learn from this experience.
