Religion is divisive. It's practically a core concept. Without religion, people are more likely to get along with each other. Nobody ever flew a plane into a building in the name of atheism.

My parents were neither godless nor bible thumpers. I tend to think, they did a pretty good job with their two kids. And I still love them and owe them for that - although they're long dead.

My parents are kind of in between too. They don't go to church, but they don't talk about religion either. Their daughter became a responsible adult. Their son did not turn out so accomplished, so I guess they broke even.

I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

I'm not very surprised, the less time you spend shoveling bullshit into peoples heads, the more time you have to pursue more useful endeavors. Like proper parenting, for instance...
I would more generally advocate that one only leave one entrance into their mind(reason), and keep the rest of it rather closed, as it is one hell of a lot easier to shovel shit in than it is to get it out.
If the evidence and reason for you to believe something isn't really any better than the reason you should believe some rural farmer from Arkansas got anally probed by interstellar visitors, then you probably shouldn't.
