Cursive?
#11
RE: Cursive?
I saw a blurb the other day that went something like "If we don't teach cursive, they won't be able to read historical documents.", but that's a pretty lame argument when you think about it (heiroglyphs, cuneiform, Latin). Sounds good though at first glance.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

Now see, here is a good use.  I have calligraphy pens in my hope chest, but haven't used them in a long, long time.  If someone wants to learn it for artistic purposes, that's totally cool.

Now that you mention it that way, I wonder if I could present it to my daughter in such a fashion that she saw it more as art than writing?
Still, I think it is something to save until after she has mastered printing.

Here's a pretty good reason. I've been watching a lot of these videos- thinking about jumping in. My handwriting is atrocious.

My son was just talking about this today. He can read it perfectly well, but admitted that he's forgotten how to write in cursive.....because he's never had to. Sign of the times, I guess. I agree with one of the other posts on this thread, kids should at least be able to write their name in cursive....at least until signatures are replaced with retinal scans.

Okay, I think we have it.  If you want your children to grow up to be soulless bastards, then they don't need to learn cursive writing.  It is what many people want for their children.

Ha I thought the same thing. He sounds a lot like Crispin Glover.

How many kids read anything today?  Any more than 140 characters and they lose interest.

Yeah, lets force kids to learn a less practical and more difficult to read writing. Or just learn how to type.

Twitter makes udo badthings in order2come under140.

As far as cursive goes, I have a nostalgia for it, and think it's pretty to look at, but I doubt its efficiency. My aunt, of Japanese descent, writes Japanese letters as artwork. If my hypothetical kid (watch out, society!) wanted to practice it for art's sake, I'd have no problem with it. But I don't think it needs to be taught in schools as anything but a novelty.
