It's as if someone magically purged all other adjectives from the English language. You see, "awesome" already was an overused exaggeration, but nowadays, even "awesome" is just not awesome enough any more. Now it has to be crazy to be awesome.
This reminds me of a phenomenon in American media where recently, "Absolutely!" has become the new "Yes"

I can't believe no one here said moist lol. Maybe only theists hate the word moist.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

"Lean"
I used to work in the organizational development department of an international company (as a summer job) and they were the department that would go around teaching "lean" processes and how to "6S" your workspace and "streamline" flow, etc. Any of those buzzwords still drive me crazy. "Sustainable" buzzwords have a similar effect. Okay, any buzzword has a similar effect.
I also have an unexplainable pet peeve about words that get shortened to end in a "ee" sound, like university shortened to "uni" so it sounds like you're saying "yew-nee." Don't know why it bothers me because when I talk to my cats I say stuff like "want to go for walkies" and "time for snackies" Maybe it has to do with baby-talk versus every-day word usage but when I hear it on-the-street, so to speak, it drives me bonkers.
Also, it's usually irritating to me when people use what I perceive as internet-slang in daily conversation in a non-joking way, like saying "that's totes cray" and not being sarcastic or mocking in its usage. Just, no. You sound like an idiot. Stop it.

Discharge...awful word.
Catholic Lady, I respectfully disagree, "moist" is a positively delightful word.

It's worse than that, it's now, "yes absolutely."

I still blame Rocky Balboa for this.

Note to Steven Moffat, if you're looking in:
The prop that the Doctor uses is not "the sonic". It's a sonic screwdriver. And the next time you have a character say anything even accidentally resembling "timey-wimey" you will find your scripty-wipty rammy-wammied up your arsey-warsey.
Just so we're clear.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

That word, or words, that we can't stand saying. For some reason, they just taste nasty coming out of our mouths. "Moist" tends to be a popular hated word, but I actually don't mind it. Makes me think of a luscious, rich, Chocolate cake.
The word I hate is fart.
Ugh. Even just typing that out makes me feel all dirty. Which is why I normally refer to it as "number three." It just makes me feel so unattractive when I use that f-word, so I avoid it at all costs. I would say I avoid actually doing it, too. But I don't need to avoid doing it because I have no need to do it. I have never number threed, neither have I ever had the urge to number three.
Anyway, what about all yalls? What word/words do you hate, and why??
I hate racial slurs and the longest word in the English language: pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosi
My wife hates the word "moist" she said it sounds so disgusting. When I feel like being mean, I describe how much I enjoyed the "moistness" of the roast she made for dinner. *cue the death stare*
