Didn't Thomas Jefferson father children from female slaves (not necessarily children)? And then keep them as slaves? Know I heard something about this. I think they had genetic proof.

IIRC, some years ago her (and his) descendants were welcomed at TJs famly reunions. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

And then when the war was over they ended up running the country.
I've been pondering a fictional 1850s parallel on Brokeback Mountain where a slave owner falls in love with one of his male slaves . . .
and the slave realizes it before his master does. And then the slave realizes he is in love too . . . The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
