Lilly's Sushi Adventure~
#31
RE: Lilly's Sushi Adventure~
I've been eating sushi for maybe 15 years, and 99% of the time, it is from a supermarket. Only been to a sushi place twice. Not really sure why. My favorite is just a tuna roll, either spicy or not. Tons of ginger, and maybe soy and wasabi, maybe not) Usually I augment it with chips and cake. No clue why that works for me, but it does.

I want to try onigiri. Those things look goood! (start at :33 if you don't like j-vloggers) https://youtu.be/S6TL3xTgYao?t=33

I didn't try sushi until I was nearly thirty. The raw fish thing really put me off. Then I tried it and -- surprise! -- it's one of my favorite meals. I don't think I could ever get tired of it.

Who knew that something as unappealing sounding as eel sauce would be so fucking good? And wasabi and ginger? Bring it on! The more the better.

We were in Japan something like thirty years ago. Lia was a jury member for a big international art exhibit. One night they took her and the other jurists out to dinner, myself included. We went to a fancy restaurant with more aquariums than I've ever seen in one place. When we ordered they honest to gawd netted the fish, chopped them up and had them on my plate in front of me lickity split. Not bad. Weird but pretty damn good.

Do you remember the name of that place? We were in NW PDX, but not an expensive place.

Sushi can be pretty damned expensive .. and not all that much better than a pretty good place .. though hugely better than a place that makes you worry for your health.
