RE: homebrewing
My parents phoned me up last month because they had a bumper crop of apples. So they gave as much away as possible, and took the rest to a farm to be pressed. The only thing left to do was to make cider. I used to be really into brewing about 20 years ago but it's not so suitable for a small flat when your partner is tee total.

But it all got me thinking that I would love to get back into it again. I never did get to making my own beer from scratch, only from kits, where I would buy malt extract and use that instead of sugar. It would be great to do it living in the highlands of Scotland though because the water is so yummy. It's why scotch is world renowned, it's the peat in the water.

Perhaps, one day, you will be able to visit my fine abode in Hobbiton.

Until then, you need not be short of homebrew! I may not be able to send you some through the intarwubs, but large buckets can certainly be ordered that way. Wink

Yeah, it'd be tough to do with someone who doesn't care to be around it.

The water around here is pretty hard. But not as hard as the water where we used to live, so I guess that's good? Scotland water would be fantastic!

You can do Guinness clones. I think it involves brewing two different kinds of beer and then mixing them. They had one going at the brewshop when we went there the other day. I could have a look for their recipe; they probably have a kit made up for it.

BB, mead sounds delicious!
Why can't I buy it everywhere?

Why do people prefer beer?

I found with mead that it really benefits from being matured for quite a while. You can buy it occasionally but it's very difficult to find in the shops.

Out of curiosity, tell an ignoramus how mead is different to beer ... They love it in Skyrim.

If you order beer, you get laughed at in Valhalla...

What the proper order? The blood of the vanquished?
