Did anyone else notice that "YouTubeRed" sounds a lot like "RedTube" ... Google playing brand confusion me thinks!!

Well I guess I should share some thoughts on YouTubeRed (which isn't available in Australia)...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL9RetC0...e=youtu.be
First notice this?
What these idiots didn't even bother do their homework before launching it?
Look I could actually link to Hank Green and other lauding the launch - but I'm not going to because they are content producers and I didn't hear any Youtube consumers going on about how great it's going to be. And as I've said a billion times, I'd never pay Google any money until they start paying local taxes.

I don't use any of that stuff and I'm failing to see what is so wrong about YouTubeRed.

Well I can only speak hypothetically if it was available in Australia; if it was why would I ever agree to pay a company that doesn't pay local tax? It would never, ever, ever happen. If they start paying local tax I could consider such a service, if it offered a benefit.
It's only available in the US, so I'd hope that yanks aren't going to pay money to a company that doesn't pay local taxes, but that's for them to decide. I can only tell you that we in Australia don't appreciate multinationals raping and pillaging like god-damned Scandinavian Vikings.

If some of my favorite YouTubers posted their content on YouTube Red, I'll pay for it. I don't mind supporting their content.
I don't see any pre-roll ads on YouTube as it is because of Ghostery, so I'm okay with $10 or so a month for the amount of entertainment I get from YouTube. It has pretty much replaced my cable bill of $150/month, so I consider it still an upgrade.

It is away for Google to make more money. Thus, it will adversely affect the smaller channels.
I doubt it will last, as major content providers have promised free content always. If they band together, it'll flop.

Youtube Red won't last very long. Google seems to have abandoned advancement of 'Google Contributor' a program that doesn't address the reasons people use adblock at all, and one year on is still only available as its pilot in the USA.
And as I mentioned above:
When 4 out of 5 people dislike the promo video, it should tell you it's not going to be a successful product.
