Now look at what he's been up to recently[Nov. 24]:
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/23/us/ahmed-m...apologies/

If you don't feel like clicking it i'll sum it up very simply;
Ahmed Mohamed's family is demanding $15 million from the Texas city police force for causing a traumatic experience.
Which is better:
To die with ignorance, or to live with intelligence?

Truth doesn't accommodate to personal opinions.
The choice is yours.

Good on him. Exposed the absurd levels of paranoia in his country and looks set to make a shit-ton of money from it. Big Grin

I don't want to assume the worst of that family either way, but I do think it is a real possibility that this was more carefully thought out than just a kid bringing a clock to school.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

His rights were violated, of course he is going to sue; that's normal behavior. According to him, he wasn't allowed to contact his parents when he was being questioned / arrested. That's illegal.

The $15 million figure is mostly due to the nuances of the American justice system. It's a purposefully inflated figure that his lawyers likely came up with. People rarely get the full amount they ask for, but lawyers always ask for more than they expect to get in the hopes that the deciding judge will use that figure as a baseline. It's the same reason why mass murderers are often charged with multiple types of homicide per victim.

You should watch the video. If you knew all the facts I don't think you'd be saying this.

He's suing the school district too though.

Right, because according to the suit, they violated their own district policy:

"disregarded the district’s written policies and procedures by detaining, interrogating and attempting to coerce a confession from Ahmed."

Honestly, there's nothing strange about the lawsuit at all.

Correct.  *

*  Not to mention that lawyers normally get a percentage of the settlement.

You realize the people who actually exhibited the paranoia won't have 15 million dollars to pay him.  And it won't be individual police officers paying the cash either.  The government funds the police and the government is simply going to forcefully take the money from people who had nothing to do with the situation in order to pay it off.  I mean they're going to use taxes aren't they?  Or the police will simply step up their methods of getting money with fines or seizing property and so on.

I've seen articles which throw doubt onto whether his rights were violated and hopefully he won't get any money.
If anyone seriously believes he is traumatized to the worth of even half a million dollars you must be pretty gullible.

I agree that it seems paranoid of the teachers to report him to the police but I don't know all the little details of the incident that took place that day.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.
