I used to play. Picked it up when I was 13 and really studied hard, playing several hours a day. I don't play any more though. I realised that I was using it to escape from my life and that I needed to sort stuff out. I've moved onto other instruments such as the wooden flute, mandolin and I started to make some scratchy noises on the violin (how the hell do you play without frets???). Although I haven't had time this year to work on that. Natural, acoustic instruments have a real attraction to me. The simpler the better.
My guitar equipment is stored away at my parent's house in Germany and sometimes when I go back there I'll get it out my acoustic guitar and try figuring out some finger picking type stuff to pass the time.
Even though I don't touch my electric guitar any more I still can't bring myself to sell them. I have two Japanese Fender Strats and a Marshall JCM 900 combo. My husband also owns two Fender Jap Strats. Between us we have 3 pink strats! I also have a really old low powered combo amp which is all hand wired, all valve, doesn't even have a gain control. It has an absolutely beautiful tone. The warmest tone that I had been looking for for years. There is reason to believe that this design led to the first Vox AC30 but I think this amp sounds way better.
It would be nice to be in a band again or to record some music but it won't happen. I bought a 4 track porta-studio in 1994 and used to spend about 30 hours recording a 5 minute instrumental. But it's too time consuming. I used to love improvising with other people. That's when you really get to see music work as a form of expression.
