Pastafarians are strange?

Pastafarians are strange?
Yet another well intended lefty, questioning another lefty because they mock religion. My objection in this story is the use of the word "strange" and "ridiculous" for that matter.

Ridiculous to me is buying an old bronze age book that has no scientific credibility that makes claims about men popping out of dirt, talking donkeys and magic babies. So another well intended lefty suggests the colander in a drivers ID mocking religion "overshadows" the intent of the message.

No, instead of insisting that the blasphemer and critic refrain from such, maybe it would be wise for the believer to consider why such blasphemy is taking place. I think this is actually worse than outright theocratic bigotry because this allows the bigots to hide from scrutiny. The only reason such a tactic would get overshadowed is because of the author's placation of those being ridiculed. I love the empathy of the left, I don't like however, the idea that never offending as a blanket solution. If our species never questioned social norms, our species never would have left the caves.

I do too. I don't however find the author's ignorance funny. That kind of good intent actually has the opposite affect desired. Instead of silencing criticism, they should be welcoming it.

Satire is frequently lost on those being mocked.

Um no, their empathy is there, they are far from FUCKS NEWS. They just need to be reminded sometimes that there is a reason you protect offensive speech. I like them, and I love liberal media, I stop when they try to make censorship a blanket solution.

RE: Pastafarians are strange?
All religious beliefs are strange when you think about it.

A friend of mine has her own personal belief system. Most people would find her beliefs strange, but I don't see how they're any less viable than Christianity, Pastafarianism, Scientology, or Greek Mythology. None offer any real proof. What makes her single-person religion any less of a religion than anyone elses? She gets most of her beliefs from personal revelation just like the Christians say they do.
