I've never cared to find anything out about my family, so the only thing of note I know is that my great-great grandmother was 100% Choctaw. I think we have some German, French and Prussian in there, too.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

A family member researched our geneaology and got much further than I ever expected he would. He made some interesting as well as what could be considered inspirational discoveries about our family's ancestry, and also uncovered some deeply disturbing facts that I would've preferred not knowing the details of; None of it mattered enough to cause me to alter or question my perception of myself or my life in general, though. I'm not certain how it could've, short of the possibility of an an inheritance somehow being involved.

I actually found my grandmother's informal, unverifiable, word-of-mouth geneaology to be more useful, in that her stories at the very least, had a high entertainment value.

I might try the genealogy.com DNA test some day. I'm sure I'm a mut.

I really want to prove illegitimate descent from the English royal family, but so far, I've got nuttin'.

I genuinely have no idea where my family actually come from, although my second name sounds very Northern Irish-y. Might look into it some more one day.

Last name is a portmanteau of a Swedish last name and a Swiss (germanic) last name. No clue what areas, though. Be interesting to find out.

Dad's the Geneology freak in the family, and he's managed to trace his ancestry back to Charlemagne (with at least two places).

Then again, I read Richard Dawkins saying that, if one goes back far enough, everyone you meet will be either an ancestor of everyone or no-one. Apparently, from what I've been able to learn, it's becoming the consensus that, odds are, if you had an ancestor in Europe around 800 AD, Charlemagne was one of them.
