Show us your roots!

RE: Show us your roots!
I can't trace my roots back far at all.

On my mother's side of the family:
All Swedish. My mother was born in Sweden, and I spent a few years of my childhood in Sweden before moving back to the United States. My mother's parents died when she was 11 years old. She never knew her father's side of the family, and her mother was raised by her older brothers because HER parents died when she was young.

On my father's side of the family:
My father was Dutch. He always made a lot of claims of who we were related to, but I'm not sure any of it was true or not. I never dug into it too much.

My dad's side the most interesting thing would be:
http://south-carolina-plantations.com/ha...l-war.html

We went there once when I was a kid and they had copies of the same pictures my grandfather had in an old dank photo album hanging on the wall. The old lady who owned the place operated like a museum and told us Descendants were always welcome here and could make arrangements to stay for free. (just found out that she died and it has since been sold to another family.)

My grand father's Grand father was one of the two brother's mentioned. I can't remember which one. My dad said he was the oldest survivor, and gave his civil war sword to the oldest of the next generation on down through my g-pa to my dad and on to me.

(my dad really crapped it up as a boy/Its beat up pretty bad) but I still have it. I was thinking about donating it to house/estate, but I think the people who own it now just live there and run a B&B.

No idea past my paternal grandparents and maternal great-grandparents.

ETA: Though I could find out a lot about my mom's side of the family, given that most of them are LDS and her cousin - from what I've heard - has traced it back to the 15th century.
