Why More Americans Want to Own Guns

I'm not a gun owner but will fight for the right to own guns so if I decide to become one I can legally do so. Those who want to ban guns unintentionally allow only the criminals to own guns. Simply put if its illegal to own a gun, the people that own then are criminals. This helps the black market, and since when did prohibition of anything eliminate the problem? Why would anyone want to give up their rights? For security? How could you be secure against someone who has illegally purchased guns and came into your home? Would you confront them with a knife and tell them to put down their gun so you could have a fair fight? That's the thing with liberals, they rely on government more than themselves.

Look at all these gun free zones we have and signs posted in businesses that say it's illegal to carry a gun. Who obey them? Law abiding citizens, criminals don't, by definition. If you want to disarm your community so you have no right to own a gun for self defense go ahead. It's suicidal, because the criminals will not follow your silly laws, and you end up living in a victim disarmament zone, while the criminals can do whatever they want.

Then there's the fact many liberals hate the fact there are so many shooting by cops, but at the same time want to take away their own rights. There's a thing called democide which measures how much a government kills their own citizens. It's always the greatest in countries where gun rights have been taken away. But to demonize all liberals who want to ban guns - - that's just ridiculous.  Many European countries have done so, and they don't have school shootings.  They don't have idiots running in to crowded theaters, murdering people just to make an incomprehensible point.  They don't have fundie wack jobs shooting up Planned Parenthood offices.  If the government asks me to hand in my guns . . . I will do so.  For the children.

I'll give up all my rights for the children, without realizing your children will grow up without rights. So you want to trade liberty for security? I don't know what country you live in, but here in the US, we try to preserve our rights because our founding fathers came from countries that restricted liberty, and created a constitution to try and preserve them.

Don't know the stats today, but at least a while back England had more violent crime than the US per capita. Most were with knives, and then they tried to ban knives with pointed tips, saying there was no reason for anyone to own a knife with a pointed tip. Sounds like a bunch of children who like to obey their master.

Sheep are people with beliefs of theism, mysticism, and other superstitions because the turds in suits tell them it's real. They come here spouting off such inane nonsense without understanding anything on what such garbage is about, nor do they understand the first thing on what they criticise, and consequently they never learn anything - but boy do they ever love flapping their traps! The louder they flap their traps, the more it drowns out the voice inside their heads which has no mystical connection, it's only their poor good sense which they themselves been shackled and neglected - it withers, pleading to be fed and released so that it can do the good work which it was evolved to do, but they hear nothing!

I know plenty of liberal gun-owners, including my mother's common-law husband, a Texas CHL holder who volunteers for the Sanders campaign down here.

I have read every post in this thread (and admittedly snarked at a few) and I think I at last see the core of the issue:  The trouble seems to be that USians view gun ownership as a right, while much of the rest of the developed world sees it as a privilege.  My own country is awash in firearms, even though it is made very difficult to obtain small arms, and your license to own them can be removed for a number of reasons.  As I understand it, VERY few firearms licenses are suspended or revoked, as EnZeds take gun ownership as a serious responsibility.

Without getting into the legal niceties of the Second Amendment, mightn't it be wise to at least consider that your FF got this one wrong?
