RE: Necroposting
It's been done before, what you're thinking about doing EP.  But the thread you necropost in ain't the thread that was there before.

Ok I'll try and stop with Pet Semetary references.  But I pretty much agree with EP, I don't think necroposting should be discouraged, I don't really see the point in it, but then saying that I've never been on this forum when necroposting wasn't discouraged so I don't know what it would be like.  It doesn't bother me in the slightest when people necropost though.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Simple answer, start a new thread with a link to the grave site. Give head stone details of birth and death. Cause of death is optional.

RE: Necroposting
The threads never died to begin with. They're not dead just because there's at least one month since anyone posted in them and the notion that avoiding them somehow makes us more original or whatever, is simply ridiculous. This is the internet. Nothing ever dies and nothing goes away. But not even that, rather, it's information. And information is sacred. We don't burn it at the stake. We preserve it and put it to good use.

RE: Necroposting
Long threads become hard to navigate and get lost in the fog of personalities.  And they often involve members no longer active, who are not around to defend themselves when quoted or to answer questions.  Bringing back these old threads often puts them in an undeserved bad light.

If you want to discuss the issue in the old thread just post a similar OP, or contrasting one if you disagreed with it and begin.  Or as is often the case, post the an OP about the issue actually being discussed in the old thread that interests you. Link the old thread if you think that that's necessary.  If you want to start an old fight from the old thread---just don't.

RE: Necroposting
I'm reminded of the infamous "Aren't you atheists taking a big risk" thread, which aside from being one of the stupidest threads ever, it was regularly brought back to life by new members. Every time that happened, drama ensued, and members screamed to have the thread closed.

Thankfully, that thread died for good when The Gauntlet was done away with.

Threads die for a reason. Sometimes there's a good reason to resurrect them, sometimes there isn't. To my best recollection, no one has ever been sanctioned for necroposting. This is one of those things where was ask that you use good judgment.

This whole concern for the poster thing? I don't buy it. And even if I did, it's beyond ridiculous.

I thought this wasn't a rule. Why do I get the impression you think it is?

I disagree with your definition of death.

The untouched threads are akin to being in a persistent vegetative state or coma. Your attempts at reviving them is your choice.
