Route IP subnet?

I wasn't attempting to answer your question, I was commenting on the over-complicated method by which you are attempting to set up a web server. That, and the fact that apparently some Australian ISP is selling multiple IPv4 addresses to people whilst the very real problem of IPv4 address space shortage exists.

Address space shortage? Lol. Can't they add more numbers or something ? Tongue

The IPv4 shortage has no bearing over my question. Like I said, I'm pretty sure I can set up the routing with the right hardware. My current hardware won't rout a secondary subnet, it only routes to my primary IP and I've tested this.

So what hardware would suit me??

No. IPv4 addresses are defined as 32 bit numbers. So the most you can have is about 4.3 billion. There are currently many more Internet connected devices than that number, hence the issue. Various placeholder "solutions" such as NAT are currently being used to prevent complete exhaustion, but at some point everyone needs to start using IPv6, which has 128 bit addresses.

This is a discussion forum, not a tech support forum. Your question was interesting to me for reasons other than the answer you are looking for, hence my comments. Other people may find my comments interesting also.

As to what hardware would suit you, I have no idea. I haven't attempted to do what you speak of.

Well Tib, my ISP does not provide any IPv6 routing. So I'm stuck on IPv4. It makes no difference to me whether it's IPv4 or IPv6, but all they offer is IPv4. My question is about what hardware I should buy?

I can't give a specific recommendatuo, but I would buy something that can be flashed with DD-WRT firmware (Google is your friend here) and then do exactly that. Stock firmware as a rule sucks badly and has poor feature sets.

I personally like the Netgear WNDR3500 and WNDR4500 flashed with DD-WRT. I don't know if either is still available, nor can I guarantee suitability for your application, but those are products I have had good success with in less than ordinary use cases.

Can't give you exact models Danny.
Anything which can map multiple external IP addresses?

That's often a bridged application . his routing requirements are odd, from what I read. I wouldn't think any stock consumer gear can do it (except bridging).

@Aractus - I would recommend checking with a networking forum.

As I said.

My question is what router should I buy...

RE: Route IP subnet?
Have you tried asking your ISP? If they see dishing out these kind of ranges for customers it stands to reason they would have someone who can recommend hardware for using them.

I'd call them up and see if they can help

Otherwise, a networking forum or even something like serverfault.com might have an answer.
