Treaty of Tripoli?

That statement is a bit out of date now. We're enough of a Christian nation that someone can run on theocracy and not get immediately kicked out, and we're led to believe that sharia is the worst thing in the world, despite sharing many similar ideas with christianity.
Human immolation, vivisection, amputation, decapitation . . .
The christers hostility stems from jealousy methinks. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
They yearn for the good old days when they were allowed to do that. W've still got people who want to round up all the gays and kill them, but they're considered the crazies now. Not the reasonable authority figures.
If you're referring to the "the USA was founded as a Christian nation", every time the treaty of Tripoli is brought up, they just hand wave it away.
So, business as usual. (March 5, 2016 at 3:44 pm)Chad32 Wrote: We're enough of a Christian nation that someone can run on theocracy and not get immediately kicked out ... In fact, it is pretty much mandatory.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

There are some things we don't want to know. Important things. -- Ned Flanders Once something's been approved by the government, it's no longer immoral. -- The Rev Lovejoy
I heard about that. It would be bad enough without the fact that Texas decides what goes into the textbooks of other states.

With "print on demand" the influence of Texas has dropped severely. School districts can pick and choose which chapters go into a text book, or even which sections of chapters get included. (This was obliquely referenced in the movie "Interstellar". (March 5, 2016 at 6:25 pm)Gawdzilla Wrote:(March 5, 2016 at 4:56 pm)Chad32 Wrote: I heard about that.
