If it stops a persons train of thought it can be a very bad thing, up to the point I wouldn't want to talk to you. I sometimes make spelling mistakes or have grammar errors in my sentences (it is not my first language after all) and to be cut off mid-sentence because of grammar tells me the person is less interested in what I have to say as it is to make some statement of his/her superior linguistic skills.
