Yes I think perhaps the reason the word "cunt" became accepted as the most offensive in the first place was for sexist reasons, but that does not make the person using the word sexist. I called you a total cunt because I thought you were being a total cunt. I don't give a fuck of the origin of the word, it's not a word only to be directed at females, it's not analogous to the N word.

The part of your quote I bolded is complete bullshit. People don't think it's extra hurtful because it's female. People thought it was extra hurtful because it was female, because our culture used to be significantly more sexist than it is now, hence why it's the biggest insult in the first place. "Thought" not "think". Past tense, numbnuts. I'm using that word now because I think you're a [insert swear word known to be most offensive here].

You seem to really have a hate-on for me, but I don't think I've had really anything to do with you, other than asking you not to use a word I consider sexist.  I'm just not seeing your motivation, here.  What behavior or comments, in particular, do you think make me a "cunt" or a [insert swear word known to be most offensive here].  And just for the record, I'd say "cunt," "faggot" (or "faggit") or "Trump supporter" would be at the top of my list.  However, in order to be hurt by your word, whatever it is, I'd have to care what you think-- and you have not shown yourself to be of sufficient character or intellect for me to much care about your opinion of me.

Let's put it this way, if "cabbage" was the worst swear word in the English language I would have instead said "Wow, you're a total cabbage". And even if that was because the word "cabbage" had originally came to be the most offensive swear word because it originated out of a culture where people are bigoted against cabbages, that would not mean I was being cabbageist and it would be silly for you to insist that I had something against cabbages.

Maybe not, but neither would it be interpreted as you having a sense of solidarity or support for cabbages, any interest in cabbage equality, or any sensitivity to the very real hurt that at least some cabbages would still feel at your (totally unnecessary) persistent use of the word.

And, since you're trying to draw an analogy, try to learn how analogies work: you wouldn't attack someone by shouting "cabbage."  That would be like calling me a "woman," which while strange would have absolutely zero insult value for me.  You'd attack them by pointing out their dirty roots, or their leafiness, or whatever-- which would be an attack on me because you clearly have a problem with leafiness, and an indirect attack on cabbages, who should not have their leafiness serve as the basis of an insult-- against them or anyone else.


Anyway, you have expressed overt hostility and a desire to insult me.  What you haven't done, however, is said exactly what action I've done to draw this level of hatred from you, or what you'd want me to do/say differently.  Why don't you use your words a little better, so we can come to an agreement?  Come on, bruh, let's hug it out!

Because when you call someone a cunt or a pussy or a dick or an asshole you are not thinking that any of these body parts are offensive or shameful or dirty. You're not thinking about body parts at all. You're using the swear word version. I can't technically speak for everyone else but I don't think anyone else is thinking about body parts either. Just like when I say "fuck that shit" I am not using the terms to mean sex with poop and I am not thinking about sex with poop when I say them. I am using the universal negative "fuck" and "shit" which are both used as swear words to mean pretty much anything we don't like.


Think about this, when you use the word fuck are you promoting the idea that sex is shameful, dirty, or offensive? I don't think so.

Maybe very indirectly. Steven Pinker quoted some neuroscience research in a talk of his that swear words are so powerful because they bypass certain filters in the brain and immediately create an emotional impact. Why do they do accomplish in the first place, i.e. what makes them special? That is likely due to their original emotionally charged content.

I really think intent and recognizable effects are more important than whatever neurological effects it might have when it comes to whether or not saying or doing something is sexist. I assume everything in life has neurological effects that we are unaware of. I'm curious, is there reason to think the effect is because of the original meaning and not just because it's considered a "bad" word? Iirc the original meaning of shit is "ship high in transport" and I don't see any reason why that would would create an emotional impact.
