I've been married four times. I went for looks over brains and personality once. I've been divorced once.

I don't want to pick at possibly painful memories, but this math isn't adding up for me.  Have you had spouses pass away?

Why not have it all? Maybe men who have this don't think they deserve to be happy?

I think the Madonna/whore complex is a myth.
I do believe you that your ex husband was insecure, but I think that what your talking about is just one of the symptoms of any insecure person in any relationship, regardless of gender.
I also think that Freud is considered more of a philosopher these days rather than a psychologist.

I grew up with a specific culture where I've seen it as a common trait. They view woman as either nice girls or sluts. There is no in between. It's so deeply engrained in them that its about equal to the programming about god. Maybe even the complex comes from religion, that whole idea of good v.s evil. I suppose many religious men view sex as evil and view sexy woman as temptation. 

What a horrible way to live, under the constant moral judgement of some imaginary figure in the sky being judged on ones ability to suppress sexual urges, strong emotions and attraction.

Freud was bizarre with his sex obsessed attributions and analysis, however he was skilled at taking notice of all the different quirks of sexuality. He was definitely a people watcher.

... and when childbirth and nursing enters the picture, man's sexy manliness is even more under duress! I'd say one does indeed need to be somewhat secure to square all these things, and have a good sense of humor.

Not claiming what I think or feel, I'm claiming what I saw. Never said " all " I said " common trait " This is a reasonable statement based on experience.
