Jefferson's Bible

RE: Jefferson's Bible
Quote:Peter testified to what was in the gospels.

Oh, FFS.  "Peter" if there was such a person was an illiterate, aramaic-speaking fisherman. There is no fucking way he became literate enough in Greek to write that bullshit.

Which experts tell you the beloved John actually wrong the Gospel of John? And based on what evidence, knowing that it wasn't ascribed to John until at least the second century?

Whoever wrote the Gospel of John also wrote 1, 2 and 3 John and obviously lived at the time of Jesus and was close to him. This is evident in reading the first four verses of 1 John.

1 John 1English Standard Version (ESV)

The Word of Life
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our[a] joy may be complete.

He could have used a secretary, which was a common practice. And he did claim to be with Jesus.

2 Peter 1:16-18
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son,[i] with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.

You don't have the evidence to deny the claim of Peter's authorship.

So the writer was best buddies with Jesus and he wrote some stories about him.  Considering all of the wars and assorted disasters in the area I wonder how those manuscripts survived?

No, Lek, no. I asked two questions, neither of which you gave a proper answer to. All you did was post a passage that doesn't really show that it was written by John and not someone else.

I think one could make a fair case that at least 1 John comes from the community of believers for whom the fourth Gospel was written. But I don't think one can go much further than that. I certainly don't jump to the conclusion that the authors are the same person. Then again, I'm not desperate to avoid admitting that much of my holy book comes down to hearsay.

I'm not arguing that, though. They could be the same author for all I care, but that wasn't what my question was about.

I think you're expressing frustration at a canned answer, Irrational. Prepare for further disappointment. The claim was made, that's good enough for some. Course, the same book claims that bats are birds, a man wrestled with an angel and drew him, and that there was a "secretary" out in the desert with a demigod to record his conversation with a demon.

Good luck.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Just keep making up ad hoc excuses if it makes you feel better about your bullshit religion.
