RE: Remakes
I'd like to see a remake of 'Rocky'.

Oh, wait - I have. Six fucking times.

RE: Remakes
I'm one of the few that really didn't care for the original Ghostbusters, so a remake holds no special interest for me.

I hated the first re-imagined Star Trek enough to swear off seeing any more.

I REALLY liked Cronenbergs remake of The Fly.

Alien and Aliens recycled some scenes and plot elements of Dark Star, love all 3 movies.

The Terminator is a pretty direct remake/expand of an apparently unacknowledged Outer Limits episode, still love Terminator, and the scene with Kyle Reese telling Sarah he came through time for her really grabs me emotionally.

The Lost in Space movie reboot of the series was pure dreck.

The Psycho remake was horrid. Beyond horrid actually.

If you want to make a movie about star ships it doesn't have to be automatically Star Trek. Or it doesn't have to be Star Wars because you feel like the story of Star Wars will never have an end, so you even ask yourself why even something bother with something endless?

Brand. The marketing is practically done for you, and Paramount basically had a film premise that everyone was slightly aware of ("beam me up scotty" etc) thanks to pop culture references that they could tailor towards a modern audience (I.e. Non-Trekkies).

That's why the 09 film (which I actually enjoyed) was about a fresh young cast but with the odd references to the OS ("I can't give you any more cappin'" etc etc). The second one sucked, I didn't mind the last one. These reviews sort of explain in much more detail why they were made and, importantly why They were box office successes:

What continuity? Why would creators of a play based on a book have to be constricted by the casting of the movies? None of the other actors look like the ones in the movies. And it's theater - people KNOW those people are actors presenting a story.

Of course it's about race - some people can't look past it, even if it's essentially irrelevant, as in the case of Harry Potter play.

Nice dodge. Whatever.

Again - what straw man? I asked for a justification of your arbitrary judgement regarding casting of the Potter play. All you've been doing is getting defensive, dodging and insulting me - not even attempting to give a coherent answer.

RE: Remakes
And what about sequels? For instance for the last few months news surface now and then how Cameron has back rights for Terminator and GENISYS producer few days ago announced more Terminators - prequels or reboots who knows.

I don't know about you but too much movies about Terminators are really making Terminators lame. I mean how many times can you watch them lose and fail to do their job of terminating? They should be called Lameinators.

But at least one movie is safe from re-making and that is "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" since due to global warming there are no more snows on Kilimanjaro.
