I guess me and Brian are the only ones who like Hilary.

Fine! All you haters will be sorry when she gets elected and is the best president ever! She'll show you!

I actually also like Hillary. I've had some down moments with her, and I would have preferred the Burnsstereo, but acting like Hillary is a bad candidate puzzles me. The main real reason she's a poor American candidate is she's got a vaginal, and American patriarchal attitudes are ingrained even in the left, here in good Ole Mirka. Lots of people hate Trump, but won't vote Hillary either. Ask them why, and most won't say emails, or even our governments shitty recent acts in the middle east, but something about how she just doesn't seem likable, or something along those lines.

So, she is occasionally bitchy in private? Probably. But women are held to a bizarre different standard, even by other woman.

I live in a pocket of conservatism in western Oregon, and there are still plenty of Never Trumpsters here who are just not going to vote this election, because Hillary is unlikable?

They all voted for McCain and Palin though, because they honestly think Palin is more down to earth and likable....and that equals good leadership to them, I guess.

Anyway, tlBig Grinr, I like Hillary. I don't love her, I know she's not perfect, but I like her and I think she'd make a good president.

Also, about the original topic, I don't think we are helping anything by calling Trump supporters deplorable...even if it's true. I don't blame Clinton, she's mostly really kept her cool considering the side show this particular election has become, but as a nation, we need to be more understanding.

I was recently reading an article discussing reasons people vote against their own self interests, Trump supporters in particular.
The article said these people value DIGNITY above almost all else, and they are often poor blue collar workers. They hate welfare because it robs them of the one thing they have, supporting their families through their own hard work. And many are racist, because if someone is lower than them on the social ladder, then they aren't on the bottom themselves.

Yes, I still find these ethics to be selfish and.....deplorable. However, just calling names is doing the opposite of helping address the root cause, which is to help them retain their dignity, or else make our society train the next generation to know that such pride is hurtful to self and others, and put the wellbeing of all above the petty notions of pride at the expense of others.

Good luck with the latter, though.

The 'negatives' I commonly read about Mrs. Clinton is that she's imperious, calculating, has a sense of entitlement, and is not particularly honest (or at least, not hobbled by honesty). To which I reply...so? I mean, what more do you want in a leader, ffs?

If she loses in the fall, send her here. We could do with a set of brass bollocks in the PM's chair.

haha, autocorrect ftw. Was trying to say Burnster. lol

I got a couple of great photos of an old farmer that turned his truck into a moving Bernie campaign. It was nice to see rural folks going left, and fighting for their own best interest.

I think a lot of people don't even realize sometimes they may be judging women by different standards than men.  I'm not saying they're sexist or even have sexist attitudes--but society has shaped a lot of the way we view the world.  (This goes for race too btw).  A lot of people will say "I'd vote for a woman, just not Hillary," and that's fine.  There's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't really address the idea that people view women differently in politics.  I mean we have so few women politicians as it is.  When I told my youngest daughters that Hillary was the first female Presidential candidate for a major political party, they looked at me like I told them that all their favorite cartoon characters were just killed in a car crash.  I mean we make up half the population, and yet... somehow we've never had representation on a major party ticket for the Presidency, and somehow we still don't have many women in congress or the senate.  Many states have also never had a female governor.  I think at least part of it is how people view women in politics, compared to men.

I mean you'd think at least 25% of congress would be female by now.  It's only 20% in the senate (Only 31 have ever (Correction: Been elected. More have served for short periods) and 19% in congress.  Now, I'm not sure how many women have run for office--so that may be part of it, but the way we view women in politics could be contributing to that as well.  I mean growing up I never once for a moment thought I could grow up to be President.  My parents told me "Oh you can be anything you want when you grow up," but I ruled President off the table, because I didn't even really know any female politicians when I was a kid.  I'm sure there were some around.  I think Dianne Feinstein was probably the first female politician I could name.

To give you an idea--the same percent of women in congress is about the same percent of women that make up clergy.  And many denominations don't allow women to be clergy.

I'm okay with Hillary Clinton.  I'd prefer someone more progressive (like Liz Warren.  I like Bernie Sanders, and would absolutely vote for him, but I'd love to have seen Liz Warren up there because I'd like my daughters to see a woman get in.  I mean it's not a TOP issue for me, but it's something I'd still like to see), but I'm fine with her myself.  Especially against a piece of garbage like Donald J. Trump.
