Remember "World Magazine"?

Back in the early 70s my adoptive parents subscribed me to what they thought would educate me. Well they did, but certain editions scared the ever living fuck out of me and gave me nightmares. If I am not correct this September 1975 edition is the one with the Pompeii story of the 79 eruption. The ghastly plaster casts the archaeologists made of the dead scared the shit out of me as soon as I opened it up to that story.

Now in the image link, in the 11th row down, to the right of the picture of the dead pig, is the image I saw in that Word Magazine. Of the guy seemingly trying to lift himself up off the ground.

Amazing how the suffering in one era becomes the tourist attraction of the future!

When I was a kid we had a Reader's Digest book called 'Strange Stories, Amazing Facts.'
One of the chapters was called 'Footsteps into the unknown.'
There was a story in there that scared the shit out of me called 'The faces of Belmez.'
