Curing cancer with naturopathy!

RE: Curing cancer with naturopathy!
What I don't like is you calling her a dumb bitch. You're a schmuck and you need to get your head out of your ass. So some people make bad decisions because of bad ideas out there in the stratosphere, no need to talk like that about deceased people, especially in such a tragic case.

Yep, I don't see any valid justification for such attitude. It's one thing to be angry about the pseudoscience of naturopathy or whatever, but attacking a victim of cancer, who was desperate and lost, just because she was deceived into favoring naturopathy or some other alternate "medicine" pseudoscience is going too far.

Aractus can't help but be a judgmental prick. You may as well object to a lion killing its prey.

You'd think that someone who went from being an Anglican to an atheist would be more understanding of how people can come to bad conclusions, but no, bitch got what she deserved.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

I never said "bitch got what she deserved". I said she was dumb, stupid. Not because she was deceived - I don't think she was deceived. Like I said before, if she didn't want medical treatment that's perfectly fine. And she didn't deserve cancer, no one does. But you have to understand she was using her journey as an example for others to follow as well. She was an active participator, which makes her culpable and part of the problem. She says clearly in the video that follows the one I posted that "some people can cure cancer by making a simple lifestyle change". In fact I'll post the video of the Doc that makes the claim (the claim that the body is self-healing):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzCqB2rpoa0

He's been practising alternative medicine for 40 years! Notice how he defends charging USD 6,000 per week for his quackery (Gerson therapy). So she stayed there for 6 weeks, I guess that's a cost of USD 36,000. Nope, I was wrong. It was USD 75,000! (Incl. travel expenses)

But here's the thing, when she went back to the States she continued the treatment at home. It's not as if she stopped "treatment" - she continued Gerson therapy until she died.

Right so if you want, just skip ahead to the last 40 seconds of that video - she says clearly she expects to beat cancer with naturopathy; and that it's the "proper way" to do it.

Why don't we look at some of the comments posted on THAT video?

Hopefully you see the problem. First she tried naturopathy (strict raw vegan diet) on her own, then she went into a "clinic" and had "Gerson therapy" (juices and vitamins), then she went home and continued the "Gerson therapy". The worst thing is she gave over USD 30,000 (which was donated to her from well-wishers apparently) to this quack that cannot even legally practise in the USA because the USA recognises that what he does is illegal. She's 100% culpable - he didn't lure her in - she sought out this treatment.

RE: Curing cancer with naturopathy!
I was random friends with someone on Facebook that was "treating" their cancer this way. I played Borderlands with this woman for a while whom I met through another friend. After a while I noticed she posted a lot of Christian and Trump stuff. Christian persecution complex. When it came to the recent bathroom controversy she pretty much just came out and said that transgenders were people, but that they shouldn't be treated as such because they were mentally ill. The only option to her was something comparable to "pray the gay away." You know the types.

Anyway, she stopped posting for a while. I figured she'd unfriended me because of some of the stuff I share, being an atheist and all. A couple of days ago I started seeing other people posting on her wall. Apparently she succumbed to the cancer. Can't say I wouldn't wish it anyone, but I also have no sympathy because of the type of person she was.

On one hand Aractus called her a dumb bitch. On the other hand, she actively encouraged people to treat cancer with vitamins and nonsense. I mean what if someone was on the fence and listened to her and then looked at the comments section and saw all the affirmation there. I mean if we didn't hold cancer victims as untouchable maybe someone would have called her out on her nonsense and saved someone else's life. The best we can hope is that nobody listened to her.

RE: Curing cancer with naturopathy!
That seems unlikely given she raised tens of thousands of dollars for her "treatment".

I was looking a bit more into the treatment provided by Dr. Dan Rogers. It's not 100% quackery, that's why her tumours did recede. However the reason why they got smaller was because of urea treatment, not because of Gerson therapy. So you can see the problem, when you mix one medical procedure that does work with the quackery that doesn't, patients then attribute their improvements to the Gerson therapy provided when in fact it was purely the urea treatment (and/or radiation therapy) that showed them signs of improvement. Urea treatment is of course not a cure for cancer on its own.

Gerson therapy most likely does more harm than good- the coffee enemas (being injected with hot coffee in her ass 5 times a day) are very dangerous and can be fatal, and almost certainly did her - a non-coffee drinker - way more harm than good. Vitamin supplements probably did more harm than good. And the extremely restricted diet also would have been counter-productive. To put it another way, giving a cancer patient food in the form of liquids 13 times a day in itself is probably not a bad idea, but you would want it to be energy dense - not based purely on fruits and vegetables. And you'd want to provide complete nutrition in whatever diet you are feeding your patient - Gerson therapy is based on a naturopathic diet designed in the 1920's. Even if it were well designed then (which it wasn't), it has not followed advances in modern nutrition science.
