Beware of Hidden Chambers....
they can ruin careers.

Candida Moss is a great writer.  Her Myth of Persecution is de rigueur for people who are tired of jesus freak bullshit about how they were "persecuted."

Quote:The Surprise Inside Secret Chambers

Archaeologists got the news media in a frenzy this week over the discovery of a possible secret chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza. But what exactly did they find?

Probably nothing grave robbers didn't already find some 3000 years ago.

Every one says the GP was robbed in antiquity but no one has ever figured out how.  When the Caliph al Mamoum broke into it in the 9th century he found it as it is now.

Quote:As far as we know, the first people to enter the great pyramid since the time of its contruction were the Arabs in 820 AD. Under caliph, Al Mamoun, the Arabs broke into the great pyramid (since they could not find the hidden entrance) by boring into the limestone with crude instruments. After months they did manage to break in and find the descending passage.

Quote:The only object that Al Mamun's men found in the Great Pyramid was the coffin in the King's Chamber.  They searched frantically to find treasure but found nothing.

T'is a mystery..... unless it was never designed as a tomb.

Well, that depends. Did Geraldo open it?

They identified 'hidden chambers' via thernmal imaging.  They didn't examine them.  And since they don't know the size it could be something as simple as the internal fill shifting away from an earthquake.

As I understand it the ancient kings used to rob their ancestors' tombs for funds to build their own monuments, etc., so the current Pharaoh could have ordered the pyramid opened, looted, and sealed back up without being challenged.

Sacrilege?  With his own family as the victim?  How would he get by Ammit when the time came for Anubis to weigh his own heart?

Al-Mamoun's chroniclers record that his crew had to dig around the granite plugs in the entrance to the ascending passage.  There was and is no evidence that anyone had been there before them.
