It is, and the punishment is death
Luckily with the Human Rights Watch getting more and more involved in KSA those problems are on their way to go, but VERY slowly
it might takes decades before I can be able to "come out of the mosque" safely. But for now I'm happy with the tiny little baby steps we're taking forward

Welcome Madferit, I admire your courage.

Have never been to the House of Saud's country, but have lived in a 'moderate' Muslim country,Malaysia. Enough said.

Your dad sounds great.-- Like the Muslim friends I had in Malaysia, and a lot like my cousin, an Anglo Muslim who teaches Arabic at the Aga Khan Foundation in Paris.

PS: I agree about Twilight; I think it's designed for young girlies of both sexes.

Twilight the movies suck. The Twilight CD's were awesome though.

Twilight does suck!

You can be depressed and gloomy all you want, but I'd look at it differently

1.Your entire country believes in, well, BS
2.you know that BS is not true
3.you can use that BS to your advantage

Say what you will, but if you have food on a table, and the ability to marry several wives you are already better of than most humans on this earth. Use allah to install guilt in those you disagree with for whatever reason- that's power!
find religious reasons to get people to do what you want em to

just don't get caught with a copy of "the god dillusion" Smile

Welcome.. It's good to see another ex-muslim in AF.
Quote:"I have only created jinn and men so they may worship Me" Allah says in the Quran
but he also says that he doesn't need our worship...
hahah he also says "I promised(to who I wonder) that I will fill the hell with jinn and men all together. "
So.. Some of us are going to hell just to keep it warm.. Tongue

He is pretty cool, I can't help but wonder about his reaction if I told him I'm Atheist though

Only heard 2 or 3 tracks on youtube, nothing with Twilight's name will ever get in my house :p

If only Tongue.. You'll have to be filthy rich to marry more than one
Most women won't accept being a second/third/ninth wife unless the dude is so rich he shits gold and she's a gold-digger.. Or you know, a 6 year old

We're maybe close geographically but the cultural (and religious, to some extent) differences are way too vast.
but your post reminded me of something I wanted to tackle earlier. Fundamentalists grip on the Saudi government and public is growing weaker by day. In places like Jeddah you never hear any wacko religious police stories like in Riyadh and Al-Qassim, they're actually getting thrown out of public places and have absolutely no authority here.

The religious police are in fact the ones getting on their on way without even realizing, the Saudi society is in fact moving forward and they can't comprehend that fact and are still believing that people look at them as the saviours like they used to, while the exact opposite is what's actually going on.

They arrest people just for talking to the opposite sex, they'll beat you up and hold you in prison for a whole day if they find you in the streets on prayer time. They're basically forcing "Allah commands" on people using power, forgetting (or ignoring) that Quran says there's no compulsion in religion, and people are getting sick of it.

Looking back at American and European history I find a lot of similarities, history will repeat itself and religion will eventually go back to its place: the mosque.
Unfortunately, there's no progression on issues like homosexuality and atheism and I think there won't be for a while, after all you guys are still struggling with those issues so it's only logical that the Saudis are lightyears behind their peers and will be for a long, long time.

Meh There's progression, for example my country has opened doors to gay marriage, altrough america is having problems with trying to impose conservative laws that are unconstituionual so they are not legal anyway, but it's mostly centered around Bible belt of USA
