Thanks for everyone's replies and for the kind words.

After analyzing Benjamin's impressive five digit multiplication, it occurred to me that he absolutely has to do the calculation out loud: this calculation requires more time and attention to detail, so sitting in silence for a minute (like I did) would probably cause the audience to lose interest.  Hence, by thinking out loud and saying how he is calculating, he keeps the audience engaged and builds up the suspense with a final kaboom finish in the end.  He is such a gifted showman along with being a highly talented person.
