Church signs
August 29, 2010 at 1:22 pm
So, here in the grand Bible belt, we have a church nearly on every block, and I often find it amusing (and sometimes annoying) to notice what sort of goofy messages churches are adding to their front signs.
One that I saw yesterday read, to paraphrase: "God's original txt message to the world: the Bible."
Pretty corny.
Anyone seen any good ones lately?

I can't remember the specific messages, but the church just in front of my high school always has amusingly fire and brimstone signs; one in particular that I can recall was something to the affect of "Not accepting Jesus means you will burn!" My friend and I always get a laugh out of it.

There's one near my house that says "Sign broken, come inside for message." Fat chance.

One near us said, 'Fight truth decay... read the Bible!' and, around election time, 'God doesn't need your vote.' The latter one's clearly false, as he's always blackmailing people to vote for him with their souls.
'We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.' H.L. Mencken
'False religion' is the ultimate tautology.
'It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.' Mark Twain
'I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.' Abraham Lincoln

I saw one that said the flipping church of god and another that said laying in bed and yelling oh god! doesn't constitute going to church, heh. I also read one that said "god doesn't believe in Atheist therefore Atheist don't exist" Isn't that hypocritical sense god doesn't exist anyways?

Ha! I thought it was the missionary position. Oh well. Christopher Hitchens already covered that one!

Love that quote from Twain, by the way. It was referenced in a book I've read in the last year or two. I've ready many in that time, so I can't remember which one.

Perhaps what is needed is an Atheist sign saying " So? Talk."
