Posted this in another thread but it seems relevant here.

They put in the AV fistula yesterday for future dialysis use. It hurts so goddamn bad. They gave me Hydrocone-acetaminophen and it hasn't done shit for me at the "proper" dose. I've never had opioids but my past doesn't really make me confident in my ability to ration these things... especially because I'm really hurting. Though I'm paranoid about asking my doc for something else.

I hear you. I don't know what your pain is like right now, but I know when AVN attacked my hip sending me into chronic, deep pain, the VA offered me opioids, and I refused. Even as an active alcoholic, I had the sense that that was no alley I wanted to walk. I take prescription-strength naproxen, which never quells the pain, only takes the edge off, but fortunately I'm able to live a relatively normal life.

I assume you've discussed your addiction issues with your doc?

Congratulation Gem!
Thank you! [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Now that I have 90 days I can start chairing meetings for my home group! Now I just need to think of a topic to give the group. They aren't a super religious group so I don't think I'll do anything God related. Maybe gratitude?

Exactly. Gem is, by everything I've read of hers here, a very thoughtful person. Myself, I'm of the mind that sobriety is more important -- of course, I'm a pragmatist. A saying in the AA group I stuck with for a while went, "There are many ways up the mountain. As long as you keep stepping, you'll get to the top."

I'm not being negative and I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I applaud anyone who finds their way to sober living, and I know that their path most likely ain't mine. Smile
Yes. I'm VERY thoughtful. *nods wisely*

Lol. I've been meaning to start a thread on my un-apostacy but I don't know what to say. When I was an atheist I wouldn't have been interested in hearing about how someone got sober and got religion.

Just an interesting read, especially if your poison is a combo of opiates and benzo's. I'm sure you could sub benzo's for any other sedative hypnotic.

For those of us that have or think they might have a problem with ETOH this should be a very cautionary tale.

Louisiana judge (58 yrs) removed from the bench for alcohol abuse and placed in assisted living specializing in memory care. Diagnosed with severe WKS. She may have come to late to the sobriety party.

WKS: https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/000771.htm

Notice that she believes that there have been no problems with her prior duties. Quote: "There have been thousands and thousands of cases that I have handled where that was never even an issue," Minaldi said. "I'm sure some will be challenged. Anyone can file a lawsuit regardless of its merit. But, I don't believe for a second that any of those cases, meritoriously, will be challenged."
