The left-right conundrum

The left-right conundrum
What do you think is the solution to this growing cultural divide we're witnessing within some populations in the world right now , one that seems to be more powerful now more than ever ? Do you think the answer is making sure your side prevails no matter what or , rather , that you make compromises with and try and better understand the other side ?

The topic is meant to be and revolve around any conflicting ideologies and/or group mentalities involving but not limited to religion and politics. The recent U. S. election results are , of course , expected to be discussed in this format as well(R vs D, or rather R & D(?) ), given what a hot topic it is.

Here is a great recent Ted interview of Jonathan Haidt(the guy from Whateverist's morality poll thread) on precisely these topics to serve as an appetizer to those of you so inclined to watch it:

I think that it would be best if people didn't pick a side, but just picked ideas they agree with regardless of where they're coming from. Adopting an entire ideology creates the opportunity for an us vs them mentality. It makes you indentify with your opinions.

RE: The left-right conundrum
My solution? Stop saying non-politicians are "left-wingers" or "right-wingers" and throwing around blame based on that. Politicians belong to those groups. The rest of us are their toys as long as we keep playing that game. Stop picking sides and abusing the other so-called side. There's too much finger pointing already and more of it is just going to cause another big backlash the other way next election.

And stop making so many threads about this. How many do we have now?
