That makes it even more ironic. However at the time of the founding of that city I'm assuming that if you were an atheist, people would have thought you mentaly ill.

Maybe... A mentaly ill person is THE DEVIL if he oppeses religion. However if you opposed the "fact" that the world is flat 200 years ago you could be hung for opposing the church who said the world is flat so by that mind set I'm assuming that the same could be said for an atheist. Then again it also depends on when that city was founded also by that "logic" a mentaly ill person is THE DEVIL if he oppeses religion.

'As an atheist' I do absolutely nothing, what with atheism only being a non belief in gods.

There are things l DON'T do .EG I don't go to church and don't argue with people about their personal superstitions.

However,my world view and all daily behaviour is coloured by some basic philosophical positions, such as; skepticism, egoism, pluralism (politics) cynicism and misanthropy.

Can some one answer this I asked it before but havn't recived a responce. "Having parents that were raised in religious families and my maternal grand parents are fanatically religious has opened my eyes, many people live there whole lives in a hole seeing and hearing only what they are told to. Little children are told from a young age that Santa is real, but from an earlier age that god is the creator and the devil is just that. Those children in most cases live there lives as religious people and are terrified of the thought of disobeying there religion but what if someone told them that it was all just a story just as they are eventually told that Santa is? What affect would it have on them providing they stopped the indoctrination of going to church?"

Faith in God is a little more complicated than Santa. While Santa is a useful comparison for some arguments, it is known by everyone that Santa is a myth. God, however, is not taught as a myth to tease kids, it is taught as a real concept as early as possible.

Indoctrination can not simply be changed by telling them it's a story. If it could, then man would this world be a different place.
