It is big news if you look in the right places.  It's not just Aleppo.  The whole country has been a mountain of misery since the war began.  

And you can blame the American media for lack of coverage, but the fault really lies on the people.  The media just reports what gets them the most views and clicks.  The average American doesn't have an attention span long enough to follow the conflict and is more interested in what some celebrity posted on Facebook or some stupid viral video like Chewbacca mom.

Also, Duterte's drug war in the Philippines should be bigger news.  The man just admitted to killing people himself when he was a mayor.

I read about that too this week - he's utterly despicable. And the extrajudicial killings are continuing with his explicit blessing. The world is upside down.

People do need to put their problems in perspective. Most of the people I know in the US, Europe and Australia who are depressed or anxious are so over inconsequential bullshit. They also have not known real suffering in a way that is common to most people. When people talk about people in America suffering, it's like 'they have to take the bus instead of own a car' or they have to share a two bedroom apartment, instead of having a bunch of unneeded space to fill up with unneeded junk.

I think that most people lack perspective on the Philippians. It's easy to condemn Duterte, but then you've never had to live most of your life in fear of drug dealers murdering your family. Everything has more then one side to it, as easy as it is to paint people as 'utterly' one way or another, Duterte is just a man.

Of course there are two sides. What if your family had been murdered by drug dealers? How would you feel then? Also seeing as crime has dropped 30% in the Phillipeans, I think it's possible that you should be less worried about your dad. I'm not one to defend the crop of proto-facists who are cropping up over the world, they are very far from my worldview. However to say there aren't two sides to this story translates as: I'm too lazy to look into the other side.

Besides, Obama and every US president for the last 50 years has been responsible for far more global murder and mayhem then Duterte could dream of.

I agree with what people are saying about celebrity news and I think that's a trend that's got out of hand.
In England it's got to the level of insanity where it's literally news worthy if a female celebrity leaves the house without make up and still looks good. It's not like she suddenly looks like a mutant without make up either she just looks like a good looking celebrity but not in make up.

As for the media reporting more on local news and local acts of terrorism then yeh that's obvious because it's more of a direct threat to us and our family.
The BBC is going to cover attacks on the british more than America and American media is going to cover more American things and African media will cover more African things.

I think that most people need to ignore the true horror that is going on in the world, that way they can continue to believe that their lives are hard, and can be made less hard if only they buy more things. If people really knew and were connected with all the true suffering that goes on in the world, they might stop consuming a bunch of needless crap and actually do something with their lives.
