Medical assistance is not a right.

It is in practically every other industrialized society.



You think another person who has medical problems should have a harder life because of something out of their control. You think people should suffer because they can't afford a trip to the emergency room. Sad.

I realized something today and just happened upon this thread.

Here are just some of the things that people are (generally) ok for US federal/state/local governments to pay for over healthcare for their own citizens:

1) Maintenance / Construction of roads.
2) Parks
3) Public Transportation
4) Correctional Facilities

I'm sure people can think of others.

My point being, these are things that not all people require, but which most people can use if needed, which is exactly why healthcare should be treated like this.

Does universal healthcare have to be advertised beforehand as something that will be crafted in full view of the public and then actually hammered out in those goddam secretive smoke filled back rooms, and then after implementation costs fucking explode and I'm not expected to notice my premium for 2017 is pennies short of $13,000 ?

Yeah, I can afford it*, but I know it's a certainty the majority of my neighbors here cannot. "Something" would have had to be done regardless of the election outcome, and even had the dems held their own in congress, since they've eschewed bipartisan support for national healthcare since HillaryCare 25 years ago, they still wouldn't have been able to pass 'corrective' legislation. If there is only one choice, despite it's hideous awfulness, well, that's what we're stuck with.

The thing about universal healthcare "premiums" is the government has a lot of power over the prices because they are effectively the main insurer. If elements of the UK system are used, the government would start buying / building its own hospitals which decreases the cost more because those facilities are no longer "for profit".

Life is not fair! It shouldn't be the governments job to make everyone equal. It should be an individuals responsibility to make something out of their life. If you have a shitty job, that's not the governments fault and they should not owe you. If you get bad grades in school, it's not the governments fault and they don't owe you a degree. People should be accountable for their actions, not demanding assistance for
something they can't control.
