Prepping for SHTF scenarios

I'll be driving past all those dead modern cars at speed! (for about 20 minutes till I run out of gas)

Please post a picture of the car. Even if it's not restored I want to see it. I love old Mustangs.

RE: Prepping for SHTF scenarios
I would certainly not consider myself a prepper. I keep a survival pack in my car with like a bunch of emergency shit in it but that's about it. Psychologically I believe I would handle a SHTF scenario better than most folks and I think that alone would give me a huge edge if something did go down.

A lot of people who are preppers are just gathering supplies for the toughest guy on the block, lol

I would definitely have no problem surviving, depending on the scenario, of course
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Fixed for accuracy. Smile

I agree, with the proviso that gold would be worthless to anyone in an apocalyptic future so long as everyone had a sane, rational perspective in such a future. But I wouldn't really expect that of everyone. Value of anything beyond essentials is bound up in perception. If enough people believe that precious metals remain valuable in such a world, then they'll behave accordingly, and the useless metal will retain some value for trade or for power over others. It wouldn't be rational; straight bartering would.  But it might happen, nonetheless.

That said, most of the people I know who stock up on gold and silver don't do so in the expectation of a truly apocalyptic scenario. They do so in the expectation that fiat currency will someday crash and become valueless. In that case, gold or silver would be valuable and useful -- especially for those lacking skills or commodities that could be bartered.

Agree, it's basically the case you just spoke of. Gold and silver have tested the test of time and always have value, because civilizations come and go, and unlike the national currency, gold and silver hold universal value, at least to the rich of each culture. Gold and silver also move inverse to the stock markets. It's basically an insurance policy to replace the money lost in the market investments. They don't gain dividends, so the only investment in them is in the case your other monetary investments start to fail. Other than that, in a true SHTF scenario, they will only be useful in bartering with the rich who have plenty of supplies that would desire that instead of bullets or food.

your right that is silly because Voldemort and Sauron are fictional the dark lord of trump tower is unfortunately very real

and at least Sauron had political experience and Voldemort would never grab a pussy he had to much class

"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

And actually if you think about it a power hungry egomaniac who lives in a tower and has managed to rally dark forces under his banner ?

Or a strange looking person talking about rounding up minorities  and talking about secret plans

We have had a devastating tornado and the following year an ice storm both knocking out power and creating havoc. There was no looting or pillaging. People pulled together and helped each other out. Casualties were nature caused not human. I am optimistic.

Bartering with the rich, lol.  They'll just have their goon shoot you and take your shit. The only thing preventing that -today- is that the shit hasn't hit the fan. Any scenario in which gold and silver has value, isn't, to my mind, a shit hits the fan scenario. More an issue of the global average, lol. The historical value of gold and silver were bound up as ornamentals, you collected them as a show of wealth. If people still have an eye (and the time) to make sparkly jewelry how bad can it be?

Trying to barter with me, with gold, over a bag of seeds come the apocalypse, would be frustating for you. Personally, I wouldn't even rob you. A bullet is worth more than all of your gold, and I wouldn't want to risk breaking my wrist trying to crush your skull over some coins. The gold against the end times market is just that, a market, made for people living in places where the shit has not and will not hit the fan. Pandering to a consumer, not a survivor. Mostly, they prey on the elderly with their knock off "mints". "Gold is at an alltime high, nows the time to buy!" "Gold has never been lower, now is the time to buy!" "The worlds getting shitty, buy gold" "Things are going great, hedge against the future with gold". LOL, fucking gold, has there ever been another substance that was the source of so many poor decisions?

SHTF scenario ?

I think I am soon to be qualified to write a book on the topic . . .
