1) The story of Adam and Eve has been manipulated by priests in order to create a sense of guilt in those who wouldn't listen to them.
Nothing really to do with God.
God never told the caste of the priests to become intermediaries between him and the masses.

2) Let us not forget that the bible was written ages and ages ago.
We do not know who did it and those teachings were aimed at people with a different kind of understanding from us.

3) Most probably the story of Adam and Eve refer to the use and misuse of the powers that people achieve after they climb up the ladder of high consciousness.
These powers shouldn't be use for our own benefits and that is when these guys pick up the apple
and use them but again this is only my understanding.

4) Why God create something if he is perfect?
Why would YOU give birth to kids?
Don't they give you extra satisfaction?
So why God wouldn't do the same?
Someone can be perfect and at the same time he-she can feel alone.
You never thought of that Chad, did you?  Lightbulb

5) Actually there are two things that God can not do.
One is that he can not hate anyone the second is that he can not create an other God.
Does this means that he is not perfect?   Angel Cloud

That's certainly one way of looking at the adam and eve story. and yes, the stories were written a long time ago, and it's hard to know what we're supposed to interpret from it. Hence why it really isn't an effective source of truth.

I would want to have a child, because I am lacking in something. Because I am incomplete without social interaction. a perfect being wouldn't need that.

You would act in that way because as you say you lack in something.
Other people would act in the same way for other reasons such as feeling alone.
Feeling alone doesn't necessary mean to be imperfect.

Quote:He cannot create another god, and he can't be satisfied with someone who isn't perfect like him. so you'd think he'd abstain from creating anyone.

You came to these conclusions.
How do you know that he ............can't be satisfied with someone who isn't perfect like him.....?
According to yoga all this doesn't make  any sense.
His satisfaction just come from turning his consciousness power in something small (matter) and see that small become big again (matter into vegetation, animal life, human life and back to him so this is all about satisfaction.
Similar satisfaction that you would feel in giving birth to your kids, growing them up and see them become fathers like you.  Lightbulb

God is perfect in the sense that He is complete and without deficiency. He wants nothings that He doesn't already have. He needs nothing to sustain Him. There is nothing He could become that He isn't already.

As for the original parents the Bible never says they were perfect. They were very good and innocent. That's all.

The bible is all about how he's never really satisfied with anyone, unless they're doing exactly what he wants them to do. As soon as you go off the rails a little bit, you're somehow broken and evil. And yes, feeling loneliness means imperfection. You find something lacking within you that requires you to seek something else to fill the void. That's what loneliness is.

Interesting fantasy you are having there. Imagining the attributes of a perfect being. He sounds very independent. No lust? In my fantasy of a perfect god he would be very lusty indeed.

Then you must be talking about some god other than the god of the bible. The god of the bible is deficient in many areas.

Besides the ones I listed in the op, he is not all powerful, for the only way he seems to know how to affect change in human history is by killing or causing natural disasters. This betrays a lack of patience, creativity and compassion.

I know humans with far more capacity for love than the god of the bible. They don't hurt me or let things happen to me in an effort to make me prove how much I love them.

He is not all knowing. As we see in the story of the Tower of Babel, he had to come down to see what the people were doing. In Revelation he had to look down to see if the people had repented. And that betrays a total lack of understanding human psychology.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

Religions talk about evil so what?
Religions themselves are mainly evil.
They invented the hell for those who do not listen to them.
What God has to do with that?
Have you ever heard God talk about evil and hell?
So why don't you let religions float in their own invented evil and hell and leave God alone?  Lightbulb

You probably feel imperfect when you are alone.
That is your problem.
Why everybody would have to feel the same?
We are all different and God is even more different.

(December 30, 2016 at 12:56 pm)Rhondazvous Wrote: What do theists mean when they say god is perfect?

As you noted, it's not defined in the Bible in a way that everyone can agree. When I was a theist it meant that God is in full control of his thoughts and actions. Thus, his actions are always his own and not influenced by anything but his own desires and promises. James 3:2 states that a perfect human is "able to keep their whole body in check" while referring to a hypothetical person who is "never at fault in what they say." So a perfect person is in full control of his 'body' with the implication that this means he is in control of his thoughts and actions and able to avoid sin, unlike imperfect humans. On the human level, imperfection could be described as a genetic defect. On the divine level... that's tough to say. We know that angels rebelled against God. Do spirit creatures have DNA? Thinking

God's perfection, therefore, does not prevent him from feeling emotions --like anger-- or from taking any particular action --like lashing out violently. But he could not really lash out IN anger, because he has full control of his emotions and his reactions. His every action and decision is calculated because he cannot be swayed by emotion the way imperfect humans are. Thus his actions and decisions and statements should always be consistent and in harmony with the person that he is.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Being alone and being lonely are two entirely different things. God's narcissistic preoccupation with being worshipped is the mark of lonely insecurity.

Oh, I see.
So you have solid evidence that God said that he require to be worshipped?

Good, let us see this evidence Rhonda.  Thanks
