Prostitution.

Prostitution.
Hello,

Here is another off the subject question. What do ya'll think of legalized prostitution? Wouldn't it be safer for the girls? (besides they wouldn't have to pay a pimp). Here where I live not even a hour away from here they have a city that is small but prostitution is legal and the crime rate actually isn't that high, lol and besides isn't it one of the oldest professions around?

But what would you do or say if you had a daughter or neice that came up to you and told you they were prostituting? would you react differently?

Poopie.

Make it legal -- and then one has to be licensed -- and then subject it to all sorts of health and safety regulations.

New Zealand and some other countries already have legalized prostitution.

Morals is always a hard one. The hardest one.

I will take your questions....Being a matter of opinion.

1. What do ya'll think of legalized prostitution? A. Legalised is better than the alternative.

2. Wouldn't it be safer for the girls? A. It is safer for the girls.

3. Isn't it one of the oldest professions around? A. Yes.

4. But what would you do or say if you had a daughter or neice that came up to you and told you they were prostituting? would you react differently? A. Yes, on a personal scale. But the other person has a choice too.

1, 2, & 3 are macro. 4 is micro.

In terms of actually visiting a prostitute, that comes down to personal choice & the particular law in your area. But, people seem to have a hard time controlling their sexual desires, especially when young. But that is another topic.

The City that I mentioned not far form here it is legalized and the girls are subjected to a health check every week along with certain regulations. I was talking with a freind about it .. they also have to carry a card, as well to be licensed.

If they catch a bug in their stuff their out of the game. Confusedhock:

I'm perfectly fine with the idea of legalizing it. I actually wrote an editorial about it once.

I find the restriction of prostitution tantamount to restricting hair cuts or colors, length of finger and toenails, etc. What a person does with their body is none of my business, so long as all parties involved are willing participants. Even then, it's really none of my business, but it pisses me off something fierce.

That old saying "The world needs ditch diggers" can apply to prostitution. Some women and men are simply incapable of handling common jobs. They have to make money somehow. Also, someone like me would find sex with someone for money repulsive. Not really the act of being paid, but the act of having sex with someone that I wasn't attracted to and/or didn't have feelings for. Some people don't think it's a big deal. They are particularly well-suited for the job. Good for them. Go and get some money. It gives people who would otherwise never have sex a chance to get laid and someone gets paid for using their own body to make cash. It's a good thing from where I'm sitting. It's no different than getting paid to model or play sports.

I went to a prostitute once.Singapore 1970. I was 22. Fortunately I did not get the clap. I found the experience sordid, rather sad and far less satisfying than a nice wank.

In this city prostitution is not technically legal but is tolerated and controlled..

I'm in favour of legalised prostitution to protect the girls, the clients and remove organised crime.

I bet it is kind of sad. However, that probably isn't always the case.

It's legal here, some are opposed to it, myself I think it's none of my fucking business what they do, as long as the girls are over 18 they can do what they want with their bodies.

Ugh. I hate hypothetical situations. I believe that people don't really know what they would do in any given situation until they've been through it at least once. I do believe that people can say what they would like to do, but we have to admit the very real possibility that we would do something different. Even if it is what we say we would never do.

I'd like to say that I'd be OK with a family member being a sex worker. I'd like to say that, but I might not be OK with it.

As for the benefits of legalization?

I'd imagine the workers could unionize.
They could depend upon legal protection to protect them from abusive clients.
Government regulation could be enacted to protect the workers and clients. I'm thinking mandatory regular testing and condom use.

RE: Prostitution.
I would have to agree with ya'll on the legaalizing for the protection of the girls.

@Shelly , I agree that some people really can't hold common jobs and it is quite unfortunate that they have to reduce themselves to prostitution. As long as they get enjoyment out of it or some kind of gradification out of it then I am in support of them doing their job. Here where I live in some parts of the city the working girls are allowed only to go to certain parts of the city because of tourism being in the main part of the city. I work for a hotel here in the city but that still doesn't keep the prostitutes out. I had a phone call from a guest that was ordering while getting it on with a girl. I would think some of the working girls feel they are being used to a extended degree.

@padraic, I am sorry for the unfortunate experience in singapore. Here in the next city from where I live prostitution is actually a large income for the city. There is maybe a few gas stations and grocery store and a casino but the main industry is to go down the different dirt roads to the trailer park or the a certain house with a madam of your choice. There is several of them within the city (a hour from where I live). Anyways they are checked regularly (once a week) and they have to carry a card. I feel like it would benefit them to become unionzed that way they have some kind of support.
