What do you fill relgion with?

RE: What do you fill relgion with?
My brain fills the hole in my head that would've be there if I were religious.

Atheism isn't enough because, to be honest, it's not even a complete system; just an aspect of any number of ideologies.

What do I replace it with? Art. I just finished watching A Scanner Darkly, I'm currently reading The Stanley Kubrick Archives and when I go to my job, I'll be listening to the Moody Blues on the ride there.

Not even saying religion is good but it fills a void. It provides a community, a purpose larger than yourself.

I don't agree with all the Catholic Church teaches, but I do enjoy mass at some level and the social event it provides.

What do you fill an absence of religion with? Atheism itself does not seem enough

That has not been true in my experience.  I do sometimes think about the fact that I did used to like the gatherings of friends I had when in church.  It is not particularly a "void" in my life which "needs" to be filled.

And if I want that, really, I can get it any time I like.  If I were to buy a bunch of alcohol and throw a party for all the people I don't hate every time I felt the desire for such companionship I can guarantee you that it will cost less than 10% of my yearly income.  And 10% is just what most churches demand.  It's not even the entirety of what you are expected to give.  I can have a better time cheaper on my own schedule any time I like.  So why don't I do that?  Frankly, I don't care enough to, hence, no "void".
Have you ever noticed all the drug commercials on TV lately?  Why is it the side effects never include penile enlargement or super powers?
Side effects may include super powers or enlarged penis which may become permanent with continued use.  Stop taking Killatol immediately and consult your doctor if you experience penis enlargement of more than 3 inches, laser vision, superhuman strength, invulnerability, the ability to explode heads with your mind or time travel.  Killatoll is not for everyone, especially those who already have convertibles or vehicles of ridiculous size to supplement penis size.

Nothing.  It's like asking what I fill my lack of cancer with.  There is no void.  There is only reality.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

There is? I hadn't noticed, myself.

It's all the other things that come packaged with it that're the problem. It's a negative feedback loop, a self-reinforcing echo chamber where grownups play at witches and wizards and nobody tells them it's not real.

So keep the good things and throw away the bad. What's left, then, but a social club?

You're right, it doesn't. But then it's not meant to. It's been said that asking what replaces religion is like asking what kind of disease you want to replace the flu. Atheism, for me, is an adblocker, allowing me to go about my day without having Jesus spam popping up all the bloody time.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I'm not much of a sports fan, so you might as well ask: "What do you fill a lack of interest in footballl with? Basketball alone doesn't seem enough".
The answer is I do whatever find of interest, (which may vary from day-to-day, month-to-month and year-to-year).

At one time, I used to go to church, to please other family members, but I would not participate in prayers, and when hymns were sung, I'd find
myself singing my own thoughts in opposition to what was on the hymn sheet. An example of this might be:-

Congregation: "Jesus loves me this I know, For the Bible tells me so".

Me: " 'J' don't love me I think not, 'Cos I find he don't exist".

I thought that I was being disrespectful to those in attendance, so I finally
decided not to go to church any more, (except for weddings and funerals).

There is no hole to be plugged by this absenteeism on my part.
There never seems to be enough time to do all of the things I have as it is.
There are no atheists in terrorist training camps.

Ya know, I realized I don't believe in a personal god when I was listening to Joseph Campbell's PBS interview, "The Power of Myth". On YouTube, the Academy of Ideas' videos on Nietzsche, Stoicism and nihilism also helped a great deal. So basically, I'm good without God, but I'm not without some philosophy.

Fill your time with loving the people who are close to you. And not wasting anymore time on AF.
