So, if I'm a masochist...?

Angel

The golden rule definitely doesn't cover the silver rule and the silver rule definitely doesn't cover the golden rule.

Now, naturally, IMO, the gold, silver, and platinum  rules have their usefulness in certain contexts, so perhaps embracing a contextual balance of them may serve people well in their interactions with others.

The problem is we don't know how other people want without asking them and even then people don't always know what is best for themselves and what we want is very different to what we need in many cases.

Also the purpose of both the golden and the silver rule is surely a guide to finding out how others wish to be treated/not treated when we have no better methods... surely?

To me it seems the platinum rule is true in the same way that consequentialism is true... good consequences are good. But consequentialism cannot be a guide to cosequentialism. And just as deontology and virtue ethucs can be guides to reaching the goal of consewuentialism but consequentialism cannot be a guide to itself (or at least rule consequentialism can be a guide to act consequentialsm but act consequentialisn cannot be a guide to itelf) surely in the same way treating others how they would prefer to e treated is indeed preferable but this rule cannot be a guide to itself and although the golden rule and the silver rule can be guides to the platinum rule the platinum rule cannot be the guide to the platinum rule.

I guess moral truth us different to moral guidence but if moral truth itself presupposes some sort of wisdom or guidence or ways to gst to itself then pardoxically perhaps even "What is morally true is morally true" has to contain a path to that moral truth otherwise it is too useless a moral guide to really be "morally" true?

Basically the question comes down to: Is morality itself defined in such a way that moral truths cannot be isolated from paths to moral truths?

Can moral truth exist in a vacuum?

Since "ought" implies "can" doesn't "We should do X" require "And Y is how we do X" in order to be true? And diesn't "X consequence is good" require "Y is a good way to get to X"
