Whose skull?

One good thing about American football is that we actually use sixteen game-balls in one game, in rotation.

I think this would be a useful idea to import.

I don't care what the sport is, if it has any contact, all of them can and do produce injury. By the time these guys make it to the pro level, they have been through a meat grinder on their bodies. Many end up having severe health problems after they leave and many end up broke a few years after leaving.

I won't lie, I do like the NFL and sometimes college basketball, used to like NHL until they put adds under the ice. But even outside sports, there is too much nonsense about everything in life always have to be quick satisfaction and brawn. It isn't that one should stop all of it, just not enough balance in understanding the difference between fast competition, and pragmatic long term thinking. If NASA's scientists thought like pro sports coaches and jocks we never would have gotten to the moon. Some things require more thinking and mechanical redundancy in planning to meet a goal.

We should not be teaching every kid they will end up on top, in anything, not just sports. In business or acting or music ect ect. It is ok to try, and who knows, but the math simply isn't there for everyone to end up on top. And even with middle class and low income work, our bodies are not something you abuse and think there will be no long term effects.

I do think sports is fine, but it should not be defined as the most glorified thing in a society. Most people simply need a good education livable wages and balance. I see too much of entertainment and sports media and even movies, painting humans as always needing to be super human, and the truth is, we are not.

The NFL lied about head injuries in the same way big Tobacco lied about smoking. And I have met in my life several jocks who aspire to make it big but one injury and that ends it, then they have nothing to fall back on and needlessly blame themselves for their failure. I had a co worker who was a line backer long ago in high school, his knees and back were fucked up and he had pain pill addiction and was an alcoholic for a while.

We sell far too much in society utopias. I don't think speed and brawn prove anything but speed and brawn, and are really only 1 attribute of evolution. Again, it isn't that you can or should rid the world of diverse humans whom have different desires and goals, you cant. But I think my species can be far too unrealistic. The good guy does not always win, the boy does not always get the girl, and most people if lucky can pay their bills and save some money long term.

So did the NHL and they are still doing so...at least until they settle the lawsuit.  The evidence against them is overwhelming.

Of all the things they have done to the game that wouldn't make my top five but, okay.  To each his own.

My staying away from it is more symbolic of corporate greed in all sectors. It is getting so bad that at some point to buy a house you'll have to sign a contract agreeing to watch an add before you flush your toilet. It is bullshit, I see tons of adds on the boards already. I am surprised the owners of pro sports dont demand a tatoo of their team be a requirement before you buy a ticket.

But that is certainly equal too the way the players of these sports get treated like race horses. Profit in both cases. It is both, how greed drives them and how they treat workers. I am not against the private sector, much less sports. But the top have way too much power and it is lopsided at this point in history, even outside sports.

I watched an American game that the yanks called "football" for some reason once, they spent most of the time in play picking the ball up or throwing it. When they weren't in huddles around discussing "tactics", which were invariably running full tilt at the other side to see who could absorb the most damage.

A bit like rugby but with girly padding.

16 balls in one game! another example of American decadence.

The first time I was at an American football game, I honestly asked my friends after the first quarter whether the actual game would start now. So far I had just seen people throwing some balls and running a few yards, and other people measuring the segments of the field for some reason, and i figured this was some kind of warmup excercise and preparations. The looked at me like I was crazy.

You consider that slow? No, having a soccer game go 3 hours with 1 or 2 goals is slow to me. But again, sports is just like religion, you are most likely going to get into it because your parents were or the society you live in is into it.

I cant watch soccer or golf, or baseball too slow for me. I wont say it takes no talent, all sports at the pro level take talent, even the ones I don't like. I can only say I am not into soccer or golf or baseball. You are not crazy for not understanding it or not liking it, but they are not crazy for liking it.

How can you call a game slow in which 20 people permanently run at full speed to steal the ball from each other? No no, soccer football is *objectively* faster and awesomer.

I love you Alex but no, it really is merely what you like. Point of view. American football is a very fast game, what most people get stuck on is the stopping and starting, but the pace between the start of the play to the end of the play is just as fast as soccer. And the scores we don't have to wait 5 billion years to happen. In some soccer games you could put your kids through college and watch them graduate and get their degree waiting for a goal. I don't get that, but again, I admit, that is simply something I am not into.
