religionists will rationalize extraterrestrial life the same way they've rationalized microbial life on Earth, astrophysics, evolution by natural selection, anthropology, climate history etc. Their faith allows them to ignore facts and feel superior about it.

What if one of their worship rituals in anal probing?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Rationalization, and I have no doubt that some will claim the bible prophesied it all along. Retcon FTW!

I suspect discovery of alien life won't have so much effect on the devoutly religious, they will sweep it into the 'science+facts to be erased' brain compartment. It will be helpful to stem religious take up of the educated young hopefully and perhaps be a light bulb moment to those not completely beyond help.

There is nothing about alien life that is contradictory to religion. I've always been of the opinion that there probably is life on other planets.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
