Lifelong Christian had to face the facts

RE: Lifelong Christian had to face the facts
LOL! Awesome replies from everyone. And yeah, finding out I was gay did not make me unbeliever, it just got me questioning for the first time. There are plenty of gay Christians who still believe. My first thoughts were more along the lines of "Either God's a bastard, or doesn't exist". And at the time I was more than willing to follow a "bastard". But before I led the life of a nun, I wanted to make sure this bastard existed. Tongue
Douglas Adams:
He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

True, because the statistical likelyhood for the existence of aliens is high. Not conclusively high, but enough to say they are more that just possible. On the other hand.....

True, but until you DO have said evidence, claiming that god does exist is foolish to say the least.

So you have faith that aliens exist, because it more likely they exist than they dont?

Indeed. I dont say there is a God, I say I think there is a God, which makes a big difference.
The universe is very complicated, (Complexity = designer) so surely on the balance of probablity, God is more likely to exist?
Its ok to have doubt, just dont let that doubt become the answers.

I will qualify what I mean by "aliens" to avoid any confusion. Alien is any form of non-earth based life, this includes bacteria and the like. But no, I don't have "faith", I just consider that in a universe the size of ours the statistical chances are high. But for the moment unproven. Faith doesn't come into it.

Chaos theory shoots that idea right in the foot.

Nope. You still have a slice of faith. Based on statistical chances, it would be more probable that a God did bring the universe into existence.

Faith is a belief that something is without any evidence whatsoever.

I don't believe that there is life elsewhere in the universe. I just consider it to be more likely than not.

And please be good enough to quote the statistical evidence for Yo-Yo.

As for Chaos theory, that demonstrates that complex systems can arise from simple systems following simple rules, without any intelligent input.

The perfect example being snowflakes.

Statistical chances? What chances are you looking at? Last time I checked god was just a possibility (sort of like the tooth fairy), but there's no evidence (hence the faith bit). The same with aliens, except for the part that it is actually a much more rational stance. Considering we could technically, at some point, have the ability to observe other life forms. God isn't even explained, but we have very comprehensive explanations for life on other planets. After all we are a product of biological processes; a little biology and astronomy can explain a good bit of that for you. Can you explain god and his statistical chances?

And Zen Badger already addressed your chaos theory comment.....

Thats blind faith. Try again.

I believe there is a God, but I dont say there is a God absolutely, I could be wrong. You still do believe aliens exist.

Name one.

Snow flakes? Simple?
I wouldnt say its simple.

The Chemistry and Physics behind it would be rather complicated, wouldnt you agree?

So is the chaos theory ignorant to how complicated our world is?

If the bigbang was a tiny bit bigger or smaller no life, no galaxies, no nothing would exist; either we are bloody lucky or some being had His hand in creating this universe. You have to have over 20 parameters in place for a universe and funny enough, all the parameters are perfect.
